William Rhodes (cricketer, Born 1936)
William Ernest Rhodes (5 August 1936 – 16 August 2005), generally known as "Billy Rhodes", was an English cricketer. He was a middle-order right-handed batsman and an occasional wicketkeeper who played first-class cricket for Nottinghamshire between 1961 and 1964. He was born in Bradford, Yorkshire and died in Macclesfield, Cheshire. He was the father of the England Test wicketkeeper Steve Rhodes and grandfather of George Rhodes. As a 17-year-old, Rhodes played for Yorkshire's junior team in 1954. And in 1959 he played for both Worcestershire's second eleven and a non-first-class Nottinghamshire side. From 1960 he played for Nottinghamshire's second team, but as a wicketkeeper his passage into the first team was barred by Geoff Millman who became a Test player soon after. Bradford
Bradford is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Bradford district in West Yorkshire, England. The city is in the Pennines' eastern foothills on the banks of the Bradford Beck. Test Cricket
Test cricket is a form of first-class cricket played at international level between teams representing full member countries of the International Cricket Council (ICC). A match consists of four innings (two per team) and is scheduled to last for up to five days. In the past, some Test matches had no time limit and were called Timeless Tests. Derbyshire County Cricket Club
Derbyshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Derbyshire. Its limited overs team is called the Derbyshire Falcons in reference to the famous peregrine falcon which nests on the Derby Cathedral (it was previously called the Derbyshire Scorpions until 2005 and the Phantoms until 2010). Founded in 1870, the club held first-class status from its first match in 1871 until 1887. Because of poor performances and lack of fixtures in some seasons, Derbyshire then lost its status for seven seasons until it was invited into the County Championship in 1895. Cambridge University Cricket Club
Cambridge University Cricket Club, first recorded in 1817, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. Depending on the circumstances of each individual match, the club has always been recognised as holding first-class status. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's. The club has three men's teams (Blues, Crusaders and the Colleges XI) and one women's team which altogether play nearly 100 days of cricket each season. Geoff Millman
Geoffrey Millman (2 October 1934 – 6 April 2005) was an English cricketer who played in six Tests for England from 1961 to 1962. Life and career Millman was born in Bedford, Bedfordshire, England and educated at Bedford Modern School. He was a good wicket-keeper, who came out of Minor Counties cricket with Bedfordshire, to become Nottinghamshire's regular keeper in 1957, and stayed for nine seasons. In a weak team that finished out of the bottom three of the County Championship only once in those nine years, Millman kept wicket to what was, almost invariably, the weakest county bowling attack of the period, and still managed to set county records. His 85 dismissals in 1961 was at the time the highest in a single season for Nottinghamshire. Millman was also a useful right-handed batsman, scoring 1,000 runs in two seasons.
