William Overton (judge)
William Ray Overton (September 19, 1939 – July 14, 1987) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Education and career Born in Malvern, Arkansas, Overton received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree concurrently from the University of Arkansas in 1961, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1964. He was in private practice of law in Little Rock, Arkansas from 1964 to 1979. Federal judicial service Overton was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas by President Jimmy Carter on March 7, 1979, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 10, 1979, and received his commission on May 11, 1979. William Overton (Portland Founder)
William Overton was a pioneer of the Oregon Country in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. In the mid-1840s he purchased the land claim, along with Asa Lovejoy, for the site which would become Portland, Oregon. Overton sold his share shortly thereafter to Francis Pettygrove. Background According to historian Harvey W. Scott, who published a comprehensive history of Portland in 1890, little was known about Overton. It was generally agreed that he originated from Tennessee and settled in Oregon City, possibly arriving with Joseph Gale by way of California, though he spent his first months in Oregon, from November 1, 1841 to the early part of 1842, working at the Methodist mission at The Dalles. Overton was described by James W. Nesmith as a "desperate, rollicking fellow." He and Lovejoy visited a site along the Willamette River between present-day Jefferson and Washington streets while traveling from Fort Vancouver to Oregon City by canoe in 1843 or 1844. William Overton (bishop)
William Overton (c. 1525– 9 April 1609) was an English bishop. Life He was born in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England. He became a Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, in 1551, and rector of Balcombe (Sussex) and vicar of Eccleshall (Staffordshire) in 1553. He was also made a prebendary at Chichester, Winchester, and Salisbury. He became Bishop of Lichfield and Coventry in 1580, and remained in post until his death in 1609. Glassmaking He was responsible for developing glassmaking in Staffordshire, importing artisans of French origin and supplying firewood from the episcopal estates. The glassworks he established near Eccleshall continued in production after his death, but were affected by legislation which forbade the use of wood for the furnace. William Overton (cricketer)
William Overton (28 March 1873 – 6 August 1949) was an English first-class cricketer. Overton was born at Swindon in March 1873. He made his debut in minor counties cricket for Wiltshire in the 1896 Minor Counties Championship. He made his debut in first-class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) against Nottinghamshire in 1898. He played first-class cricket for MCC until 1908, making eight appearances. Playing as a left-arm medium pace bowler, Overton took 21 wickets in his eight matches for MCC, at an average of 16.19 and with best figures of 4 for 22. He featured regularly for Wiltshire in the Minor Counties Championship, making 143 appearances before the First World War. He made 21 appearances following the conclusion of the war, with his final minor counties appearance being in 1922. Wil Overton
Wil Overton is a British artist, specialising in manga styles. Career He has worked for a number of notable British video games magazines, including Super Play and N64 Magazine. He then worked at Rare (company), Rare and was an illustrator for NGamer magazine. After Overton drew the ''Perfect Dark'' cover for N64 Magazine at the time of the game's release, the manga-styled Joanna Dark design impressed Rare, and he was hired by the company as a result; the original cell-shaded designs for ''Perfect Dark Zero'' were based on this design, but later changed to more realistic graphics. Since leaving Rare, Overton has been a freelance artist. He will provide art for the instruction manual of the Playtonic Games title, ''Yooka-Laylee''.
