William Prosser, Lord Prosser
William David Prosser, Lord Prosser QC LLB PC (1934–2015) was a Scottish judge and an advocate for the arts in Edinburgh. Personal life and education He was educated at the Edinburgh Academy where he was a senior Ephor (prefect). Prosser read classics at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, where he finished with a double first, and then read law at University of Edinburgh. For his National Service, he was commissioned into the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and served in British Guyana. Prosser married Vanessa Lindsay in 1964. They had two sons and two daughters. Prosser died in March 2015, in Edinburgh, at the age of 80. Legal career Prosser became an advocate in 1962, and served as Standing Junior Counsel in Scotland for the Board of Inland Revenue (1969–1974. He took silk (became a Queen's Counsel) in 1974, and served as Vice Dean (1979–1983) and then Dean (1983–1986) of the Faculty of Advocates. William Lloyd Prosser (March 15, 1898 – 1972) was the Dean of the School of Law at UC Berkeley from 1948 to 1961. Prosser authored several editions of ''Prosser on Torts'', universally recognized as the leading work on the subject of tort law for a generation. It is still widely used today, now known as ''Prosser and Keeton on Torts'', 5th edition. Furthermore, in the 1950s, Dean Prosser became Reporter for the '' Second Restatement of Torts''. Biography After spending his first year at Harvard Law School, Prosser transferred to and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School. After a brief time in private practice at Dorsey, Colman, Barker, Scott & Barber (the modern-day Dorsey & Whitney), he became a professor of law at the University of Minnesota Law School, where he wrote ''Prosser on Torts''. He taught there from 1931 until 1940, when he resigned to become the Minnesota counsel for the Roosevelt Administration's Office of Price Administration. In ... William Henry Prosser
William Henry Prosser (16 July 1870 – 30 June 1952) was a Welsh-born schoolmaster and a cricketer who played in a single first-class cricket match for Cambridge University in 1893. He was born at Devauden, Monmouthshire and died at Heacham, Norfolk. The son of the rector of Devauden, Prosser was educated at Selwyn College, Cambridge.
