William Proctor House (Marengo, Indiana)
William Proctor House is a historic home located in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Indiana. It was built about 1832, and is a two-story, three-bay, Federal style brick dwelling. Marengo is a town in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Indiana, United States. The population was 828 at the 2010 census. One of the tourist attractions and sources of revenue for the town is Marengo Cave, a U.S. National Landmark. Originally discovered in 1883 by two schoolchildren, today it offers guided tours. Federal-style architecture is the name for the classicizing architecture built in the newly founded United States between 1780 and 1830, and particularly from 1785 to 1815, which was heavily based on the works of Andrea Palladio with several innovations on Palladian architecture by Thomas Jefferson and his contemporaries first for Jefferson's Monticello estate and followed by many examples in government building throughout the United States.
