William Peterson (footballer)
William Peterson (c.1885-?) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Banfield and Independiente in Argentina. Career William Peterson was born in England, and emigrated to Argentina about the year 1890. He settled with his family in the south of Greater Buenos Aires largely populated by members of the British community. He began his sport career in the Club Atlético Banfield, and in 1908 he get the third division championship. In 1910, he was runner-up in the Second Division Tournament with Banfield, who faced against the Racing Club de Avellaneda the final for the promotion to the first division. Banfield, Buenos Aires
Banfield is a city in the district of Lomas de Zamora in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, south of the city center of Buenos Aires. It forms part of the Greater Buenos Aires metro area. History The area where the city is currently located, had its origin from the laying of the railroad tracks. In principle, this allowed communication between Chascomús and the city of Buenos Aires, which at that time was the provincial capital. The yellow fever epidemic that occurred in 1871 diversified the location of the population, mainly in the suburbs, as well as in the sectors near the capital, until then little chosen. Juan de Zamora sold his property to the Colegio de Nuestra Señora de Belén in 1765, but in 1767 the Jesuit order of Río de la Plata was expelled and dissolved. Club Atlético Porteño
Club Atlético Porteño is an Argentine rugby union club sited in San Vicente, Buenos Aires. The club was founded on July 28, 1895 by Irish immigrants as a football team, which participated in tournaments organized by the Argentine Football Association until 1931 when the sport became professional in Argentina. The senior squad plays in Tercera, the sixth division of the URBA league system. Porteño also has a women's rugby section. The club has also a women's rugby team competing in "Torneo Femenino", organised by the same body.
