William Perry (Queensland Businessman)
William Perry (1835–1891) was a business man and politician in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Early life William Perry was born in 1835 in Sydney, New South Wales, the son of William and Louisa (née Dodd). Business life In June 1860, William Perry moved to Brisbane with his brother George to establish a hardware business; their brother Frederick later joined them. In August 1860, the Perry Brothers opened their business in Queen Street (where the Wintergarden Centre is in 2014). Business was successful and in 1865 they built new premises next door which they later extended back to Elizabeth Street. In 1876 his brother in law, Henry James Harcourt (1820-1909), also an Iron Monger, helped the business and "between the death of the late Mr. W Perry and the advent of his sons into the firm acted in a very responsible way in the business". St Philip's Church, Sydney
St Philip's Church, Sydney is the oldest Anglican church parish in Australia. The church is located in the Sydney city centre between York Street, Clarence and Jamison Streets on a location known as Church Hill, so sometimes called Church Hill Anglican. St Philip's is part of the Diocese of Sydney, Australia. The church is listed on the (now defunct) Register of the National Estate. ''The Queenslander'' was the weekly summary and literary edition of the '' Brisbane Courier'', the leading journal in the colony—and later, federal state—of Queensland since the 1850s. ''The Queenslander'' was launched by the Brisbane Newspaper Company in 1866, and discontinued in 1939. The Queensland Heritage Register is a heritage register, a statutory list of places in Queensland, Australia that are protected by Queensland legislation, the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. It is maintained by the Queensland Heritage Council. As at 5 April 2020 there are 1790 places on the Queensland Heritage Register, including the Story Bridge in Brisbane and the Ross River Meatworks Chimney in Townsville. Criteria For a place to be entered in the register, it must be nominated and then go through a process of assessment. Perry Park, Brisbane
Perry Park is a 5,000-capacity sporting ground located in the Brisbane suburb of Bowen Hills. Perry Park is home to the Brisbane Strikers, which plays in the National Premier Leagues Queensland. Perry Park is owned by Brisbane City Council, and managed by the YMCA, who run facilities in the complex. Brisbane Strikers hold a sub-lease from the YMCA. History Scotsman William Raff was granted ownership of the land in 1857. He then subdivided the land in 1875, and the lot where Perry Park is now situated was sold to William Perry, among three other lots. Mr Perry was a prominent Brisbane ironmonger. He used the land essentially as his family cattle and horse paddock. Francis Thomas "Frank" Gregory (19 October 1821 – 23 October 1888) was an Australian explorer and politician. Born in England, he emigrated with his family to Australia as a boy. He was the younger brother of the explorer and politician Augustus Gregory, who also made his career in the colony. Biography Gregory was born at Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire, England in 1821. His family, including his older brother Augustus, emigrated to Western Australia in 1829. After getting a basic education, Gregory entered the Western Australian public service in 1841 as a cadet surveyor. In 1846, Gregory accompanied his older brother Augustus and explorer Henry Churchman, to investigate the country north of Perth. Harlaxton House
Harlaxton House is a heritage-listed villa at 6 Munro Street, Harlaxton, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1869 to 1870 to 1910s circa. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Harlaxton House is a low-set, single-storey stone residence built for Francis Thomas Gregory, and his wife Marion Scott Gregory, née Hume, in the 1870s. A letter to the editor of the Toowoomba Chronicle dated 19 June 1979, suggests that Harlaxton House was named after Harlaxton Manor, relatively near the home of the Gregorys at Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire. The architect of Harlaxton House is unknown. Newstead is an inner northern riverside suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. At the , it had a population of 7,496.
