William Penn Fyve
William Penn Fyve were a garage rock group from Palo Alto, California who recorded the psychedelic classic "Swami". Their membership included Gregg Rolie and Mickey Hart. Background The group started out in late 1964 at the College of San Mateo calling themselves The DiscCounts. The original founding lineup was made up of Ron Cox on drums, Mike Dunn on guitar, Neil Holtmann on vocals, and Steve Sweet on bass. The group had a similar visual style to that of Paul Revere & the Raiders revolutionary attire. With the exposure by Radio KYA, KFRC and KLIV, the group was one of the San Francisco Bay Area's most well-known popular groups at the time and were star attractions in their own shows. They opened for some major national as well as international acts. One long term member was Gregg Rolie who would later be in Santana and Journey. Garrie Emory Thompson (September 18, 1927June 29, 2018) was a record label owner, producer and band manager. He ran the Hush and Duane Record labels. he was the producer of " Little Girl" for Syndicate of Sound. Background He was born on September 18, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to parents Garrie and Clara Thompson. He was the president of Duane Music Inc., and Hush Records, both located at 382 Clarence Avenue, Sunnyvale, California. As a publisher, the music included " Little Girl" by Syndicate of Sound, " Warm and Tender Love" by Percy Sledge and " My Adorable One" by Joe Simon. AIP Records is a record label that was started by Greg Shaw's Bomp! Records in 1983 to continue the Pebbles series. AIP stands for "Archive International Productions". The first 10 volumes in the Pebbles series had been released by BFD Records of Kookaburra, Australia (most likely a fictitious label name to avoid copyright infringement lawsuits) in 1979–1980 and have been kept in print by AIP for many years. Including those in the companion Highs in the Mid-Sixties series – which concentrated on American regional music scenes – there are over 50 LPs covering some 800 obscure, mostly American "Original Punk Rock" songs recorded in the mid-1960s – primarily known today as the garage rock and psychedelic rock genres – that were previously known only to a handful of collectors. ''Essential Pebbles, Volume 1'' is the first compilation album in the Essential Pebbles series. Although subtitled Ultimate '66 garage classics!, not all of the recordings on the album were originally released in 1966. Release data This album was released on AIP Records in 1997 as #AIP-CD-1058. The first CD collects tracks from the first 10 CDs in the '' Pebbles'' series plus ''Ear-Piercing Punk'', while the second CD are "insanely rare bonus tracks" that are previously un-reissued in any form (except for 2 that were previously included on a rare 1982 compilation album). ''Trash Box'' is a 5-CD box set of mid-1960s garage rock and psychedelic rock recordings, primarily by American bands. This box set is similar to the earlier ''Pebbles Box'' (a 5-LP box set) and includes almost all of the same recordings in that box set (and in the same order), along with numerous bonus tracks at the end of each disc. Supposedly, ''the Trash Box'' collects the first five volumes of the CDs in the Pebbles series (i.e., those released by AIP Records, not to be confused with the 4 earlier CDs that were issued by ESD Records).
