William Nuessle
William L. Nuessle (May 5, 1878 – March 30, 1959) was a justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court from 1923 to December 31, 1950. He first won election to court in 1922. He subsequently won reelection in 1928, 1934, and 1940. He had previously served as a judge on the North Dakota District Courts and as the state's attorney for McLean County. Early life and education Nuessle was born May 5, 1878, in North Boston, New York. In 1866, he moved with his parents to the Dakota Territory, living on a farm near Emerato in Grand Forks County. Nuessle attended public schools in the Grand Forks area for his early education. He attended the University of North Dakota, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in 1889 and his Juris Doctor in 1901. Career Nuessle was admitted to the bar and opened a legal office in Goodrich, North Dakota. North Dakota Fighting Sioux Football
The North Dakota Fighting Hawks represent the University of North Dakota, competing as a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) in the NCAA Division I's Football Championship Subdivision. From 1973 to 2008, they played in the NCAA's NCAA Division II, winning the National Championship in 2001. From 1955 to 1972, they competed in the NCAA's College Division where they participated in and won three bowl games. North Dakota fielded its first football team in 1894. In 1922, they were one of the 9 charter members of the North Central Conference, where they competed until 2008 when they upgraded all of their athletic programs to the Division I level and joined the Great West Conference. Washburn is a city in southern McLean County, North Dakota, United States. Located along the upper Missouri River, it is the county seat of McLean County. The population was 1,300 at the 2020 census. Washburn was founded in 1882 near the former site of Fort Mandan, winter quarters of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804-1805, near a Mandan village.
