William Morrison Wyllie
William Morrison Wyllie (12 December 1820 – 13 March 1895) was a British painter, known for his coastal and maritime subjects. A number of his works are in the Southwark Art Collection. Other collections which hold examples include the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum. Early life Wyllie was born in Aix-les-Bains, Provence, France in 1820 to parents William Wyllie, a gentleman, and Martha Morrison. He was baptised 20 July 1822 in Forfar, Angus.Scotland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950 Career Wyllie was known for his paintings of maritime and coastal scenes, in both watercolors and oils. His maritime scenes capture coastal living of the French and British in the nineteenth century. Wyllie depicted various types of trading sailboats, along with fishermen and women working along the shore-side, revealing the "labourous fishing industry" and highlighting the workers daily struggles. Percy Smythe, 6th Viscount Strangford
Percy Clinton Sydney Smythe, 6th Viscount Strangford (31 August 178029 May 1855) was an Anglo-Irish diplomat. Early life He was the son of Lionel Smythe, 5th Viscount Strangford (1753–1801) and Maria Eliza Philipse. In 1769, his sixteen-year-old future father left Ireland, joined the army and served during the American War of Independence. While quartered in New York in the winter of 1776 to 1777, he met and courted Maria. She was the daughter of Frederick Philipse III (1720–1785), the third and last Lord of Philipsburg Manor and a descendant of the Dutch founder of the city. Wimereux (; vls, Wimeruwe) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography Wimereux is a coastal town situated some north of Boulogne, at the junction of the D233 and the D940 roads, on the banks of the river Wimereux. Lionel Percy Smythe (4 September 1839 in London – July 1918) was a British artist, and etcher. Life and work Lionel Percy Smythe was the illegitimate son of Percy Clinton Sydney Smythe, 6th Viscount Strangford and Katherine Benham (later Mrs Wyllie). He was born in London in 1839 and spent his early years in France, where his younger sister and brother were born. The family returned to London in 1843 and lived in Gloucester Crescent, Camden).
