William McKenzie Morrison
William McKenzie Morrison (March 23, 1857 – March 24, 1921) was an American photographer best known for photographs of theater performers in Chicago, Illinois. Biography Morrison was born in 1857 in Detroit, Michigan, but moved to Chicago at the beginning of the American Civil War. He began working in a photography studio at the age of ten. He attended the Metropolitan Business College in Chicago, graduating in 1879, and he used his education to manage a series of photography studios until 1889, when he opened his own studio, located in the Haymarket Theatre. In 1899, he moved his studio out of the theater building to its own location. Lillooet (electoral District)
The Lillooet electoral district was a riding (provincial constituency) in the Canadian province of British Columbia, centred on the town of the same name and with various boundaries. Originally with two members, the constituency was split into Lillooet West and Lillooet East in the 1894, 1898, and 1900 elections, with Lillooet West being recomprised as one riding (with only one member) in the 1903 election. Political geography The riding was one of the first created in British Columbia, and at the time the town of Lillooet was one of the largest in the province (it is now one of the smallest). It was originally a two-member riding. It was an essentially rural riding, spanning the southern Cariboo and the mountain country west of Lillooet and the northern part of the Fraser Canyon. Garth Morrison
Sir William Garth Morrison, (8 April 1943 – 24 May 2013) was the Scout Association's Chief Scout from 1988 to 1996 and a member of the World Scout Committee from 1992 to 2002. Morrison attended Pangbourne College where he was Chief Cadet (i.e. head boy) and Captain of the English Schools Rugby Football Union (15 group). He continued his education at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth where he was awarded the Queen's Telescope and Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts. He spent twelve years in the Royal Navy, as an engineer officer, leaving in 1973 with the rank of Lieutenant. He subsequently took over the running the family farm in West Fenton, East Lothian, Scotland which provided grains for brewers and distillers in Scotland. William Vitruvius Morrison
William Vitruvius Morrison (1794 – 16 October 1838) was an Irish architect, son and collaborator of Sir Richard Morrison. Life He was born at Clonmel, County Tipperary, second son of Sir Richard Morrison (1767–1849) and Elizabeth Ould, a granddaughter of the celebrated physician and author Sir Fielding Ould. His middle name derives from the first century B.C. Roman architect Marcus Vitruvius Pollio. Sir Richard headed a successful private architectural practice and was an architect at Trinity College, Dublin. He joined his father's practice in 1809. In 1821 he made an extensive tour of Europe, including visits to Rome and Paris. Upon his return, he built up a successful practice, but later his health broke down. After a second visit to the continent he died in his father's house at Bray, County Wicklow, on 16 October 1838 and is buried in Mount Jerome Cemetery, Dublin. William Morrison (chemist)
William Morrison (23 August 1855 – 29 August 1927) was a Scottish chemist. His background in chemistry piqued his interest in improving storage batteries. He concentrated on how to produce the most available energy for a unit of weight for efficiency in the working of an individual battery cell. Eventually, he developed storage batteries far more powerful than what had then been available. To demonstrate his batteries, Morrison installed 24 of them on a common horse-drawn carriage and attached an electric motor to the rear axle to be powered by them. Through various innovations, he developed the controls for the power used and the vehicle's steering so that the driver had complete control. Morrison invented the first practical self-powered four-wheeled electric carriage in the United States.
