William Moore (Clogher MP)
Hon. William Moore (11 December 1743 – 21 November 1810) was an Irish politician. He sat in the House of Commons of Ireland from 1765 to 1776 as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the borough of Clogher in County Tyrone, Clonmel in County Tipperary from 1781 to 1792, and for St Johnstown in County Longford from 1798 until his resignation in January 1800 by the procedural device of accepting the office of Escheator of Munster. House Of Commons Of Ireland
The Irish House of Commons was the lower house of the Parliament of Ireland that existed from 1297 until 1800. The upper house was the House of Lords. The membership of the House of Commons was directly elected, but on a highly restrictive franchise, similar to the unreformed House of Commons in contemporary England and Great Britain. Catholics were disqualified from sitting in the Irish parliament from 1691, even though they comprised the vast majority of the Irish population. The Irish executive, known as the Dublin Castle administration, under the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, was not answerable to the House of Commons but to the British government. However, the Chief Secretary for Ireland was usually a member of the Irish parliament. In the Commons, business was presided over by the Speaker. The Parliament of Ireland ( ga, Parlaimint na hÉireann) was the legislature of the Lordship of Ireland, and later the Kingdom of Ireland, from 1297 until 1800. It was modelled on the Parliament of England and from 1537 comprised two chambers: the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The Lords were members of the Irish peerage (’lords temporal’) and bishops (’ lords spiritual’; after the Reformation, Church of Ireland bishops). The Commons was directly elected, albeit on a very restricted franchise. Richard Lovell Edgeworth
Richard Lovell Edgeworth (31 May 1744 – 13 June 1817) was an Anglo-Irish politician, writer and inventor. Biography Edgeworth was born in Pierrepont Street, Bath, England, son of Richard Edgeworth senior, and great-grandson of Sir Salathiel Lovell through his mother, Jane Lovell, granddaughter of Sir Salathiel. The Edgeworth family came to Ireland in the 1580s. Richard was descended from Francis Edgeworth, appointed joint Clerk of the Crown and Hanaper in 1606, who inherited a fortune from his brother Edward Edgeworth, Bishop of Down and Connor. A Trinity College, Dublin and Corpus Christi College, Oxford alumnus, he is credited for creating, among other inventions, a machine to measure the size of a plot of land. He also made strides in developing educational methods. He anticipated the caterpillar track with an invention that he played around with for forty years but that he never successfully developed. Francis Hardy (Irish Politician)
Francis Hardy (1751–1812) was an Irish barrister, politician and biographer. Life Hardy graduated B.A. at Trinity College, Dublin in 1771, and was called to the bar in 1777. In politics, he was an associate of Henry Grattan. In 1783, through the interest of the Earl of Granard, Hardy was returned as member for Mullingar in the Parliament of Ireland. Hardy sat as representative for Mullingar from his first entrance into parliament until the Union with Great Britain in 1800/01. He was an effective speaker, but only took part in major debates. Although he was short of money Hardy declined governmental overtures, by which it sought to induce him to vote for the legislative union with Great Britain. After the Union, Hardy retired to the country, and passed much of his time with Grattan and his family. He was appointed a commissioner of appeals at Dublin in 1806. Sir William Gleadowe-Newcomen, 1st Baronet (1741–21 August 1807) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Born William Gleadowe, he assumed the additional surname and arms of Newcomen following his marriage to Charlotte Newcomen, only child and heiress of Edward Newcomen, on 17 October 1772. On 9 October 1781 he was created a baronet, of Carrickglass in the Baronetage of Ireland.
