William Mohun
Sir William Mohun (ca. 1540 – 6 April 1588) of Hall in the parish of Lanteglos-by-Fowey and of Boconnoc, both in Cornwall, was a Member of Parliament. Origins He was the son and heir of Reginald Mohun (1507/8–1567) of Hall and Boconnoc, by his wife Jone Trevanion, daughter of Sir William Trevanion and sister of Sir Hugh Trevanion.Vivian, 1895, p. 566 His great-grandfather William Mohun of Hall had married Elizabeth Courtenay, one of the greatest heiresses of her time, one of the four eventual co-heiresses of Edward Courtenay, 1st Earl of Devon (1527–1556) the last of the mediaeval Courtenay Earls of Devon. The Mohun share of the Courtenay inheritance included Boconnoc in Cornwall and Okehampton Castle in Devon, and other remnants of the feudal barony of Okehampton, one of the earliest possessions of the Courtenays. John Trelawny (died 1568)
John Trelawny (or Trelawney) (died 14 October 1568), of Pool in Menheniot, Cornwall, was an English landowner. The son of another John Trelawny of Pool, who had been a co-heir of the Earl of Devon, he was the head of one of Cornwall's leading families. He was also High Sheriff of Cornwall in 1561 and 1567, and a Deputy Lieutenant, and was paid the sum of £6 for not taking the order of knighthood. Trelawny died in 1568. He had married Anne Reskymer. His eldest son, John (died 1569), was an infant when he inherited his father's estate and lived only a few months afterwards, but the inheritance passed to a second son, Jonathan (later Sir Jonathan, 1568–1604), born after his father's death. Sir John William de la Pole, 6th Baronet (26 June 1757 – 30 November 1799) of Shute in the parish of Colyton, Devon, was a Member of Parliament for the rotten borough of West Looe. In 1791 he published, under the title ''Collections Towards a Description of the County of Devon'', the researches on the history and genealogy of Devonshire made by his ancestor the antiquary Sir William Pole (d.1635), which he did not publish in his lifetime and which were enlarged by his son Sir John Pole, 1st Baronet, but which were partly destroyed during the Civil War at Colcombe Castle. Sir William Pole (1561–1635) of Colcombe House in the parish of Colyton, and formerly of Shute House in the parish of Shute (adjoining Colcombe), both in Devon, was an English country gentleman and landowner, a colonial investor, Member of Parliament and, most notably, a historian and antiquarian of the County of Devon. Career Pole was baptised on 27 August 1561 at Colyton, Devon, the son of William Pole, Esquire (c.1514 – 1587), MP, by his wife Katherine Popham (died 1588), daughter of Alexander Popham of Huntworth, Somerset by his wife Joan Stradling. Katherine was the sister of John Popham (1531–1607), Lord Chief Justice. In 1560 his father had purchased Shute House, near Colyton and Axminster, Devon.
