William Miller (American Publisher)
The music publishing firm of Miller & Beacham was formed by William Miller and Joseph R. Beacham in 1853 in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1862, they purchased the Baltimore firm of John Cole. Miller had previously purchased the firm of F. D. Benteen in 1838. Miller & Beacham was one of the most popular publishers during the American Civil War, and their catalogue included "Maryland! My Maryland! "Maryland, My Maryland" was the state song of the U.S. state of Maryland from 1939 until 2021. John Cole (music Publisher)
John Cole (bap. June 24, 1774 - August 17, 1855) was a British-born American music printer, publisher and composer based in Baltimore. Born in Tewkesbury, England, he emigrated to Baltimore in 1785 with his family. He compiled nearly thirty different collections of sacred music for various church denominations. In 1802, he became a printer; several of his publications included compositions by him. In 1822 he opened a music shop, which became the most important seller of sheet music in Baltimore, and he worked as a music publisher until 1839. American Civil War

"Maryland, My Maryland" was the state song of the U.S. state of Maryland from 1939 until 2021. The song is set to the melody of "Lauriger Horatius" — the same tune " O Tannenbaum" was taken from. The lyrics are from a nine-stanza poem written by James Ryder Randall (1839–1908) in 1861. The state's general assembly adopted "Maryland, My Maryland" as the state song on April 29, 1939. The song's words refer to Maryland's history and geography and specifically mention several historical figures of importance to the state.
