William Pollock McLaren (16 October 1923 – 19 January 2010) was a Scottish rugby union commentator, teacher, journalist and one time rugby player. Known as 'the voice of rugby', he retired from commentating in 2002. Renowned throughout the sport, his enthusiasm and memorable turn of phrase endeared him to many. Billy McLaren
Billy McLaren (born 7 June 1948 in Glasgow) is a Scottish former association football player and manager. Player McLaren was well-travelled as a player, serving eight different Scottish league clubs. His longest service was to Dumfries club, Queen of the South. In a subsequent interview, teammate Jocky Dempster named McLaren in what he felt was the eleven best players at the club in the 1970s. Iain McChesney was another to name McLaren in the best players at Palmerston Park at the time. He helped Hibernian gain promotion back to the Scottish Premier Division in 1981 after signing for the club in December 1980.Jeffrey, pp110. He has played for several Scottish clubs throughout his career which started in 2003. Career Airdrie United Born in Glasgow, McLaren had been at Benburb and Hamilton Accies u19s before signing professional at Airdrie in 2003. St Johnstone After catching the eye of many clubs, he signed for St Johnstone, in a reported five-figure deal in August 2006. William McLaren (1923–1987) was a Scottish illustrator. Life Born in Ferniegair, Hamilton, McLaren grew up in Cardenden, Fife, Scotland with a crippling handicap that affected his feet. He attended Beath High School, Cowdenbeath, before going to college in Edinburgh. In 1944 he earned his Diploma and the Highly Commended Post Diploma from Edinburgh College of Art. After graduation and with a bursary from the Andrew Grant Fund he left Scotland and visited Italy and France. Throughout his life he remained a francophile and was fluent in French. He earned a living as a commercial illustrator working for ''The Radio Times'', '' The Listener'' and The Sphere. He is noted for illustrating the popular Beverley Nichols gardening books. He also painted murals at Wemyss Castle, St Adrian's Church in West Wemyss, Hopetoun House, Hawthornden Castle and Tyninghame House. William Edward McLaren (December 15, 1831 - February 19, 1905) was the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, Bishop of Chicago (formerly Illinois) in the Episcopal Church (United States), Episcopal Church from 1875 until his death in 1905. Early life and education McLaren was born on December 15, 1831, in Geneva, New York, the son of the Reverend John Finley McLaren, a Scottish Presbyterian minister.
