William Lygon (Roundhead)
Sir William Lygon (1568–1608) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1589 and 1608. Lygon was the eldest son of Richard Lygon of Madresfield Court, Worcestershire and his wife Mary Russell, daughter of Sir Thomas Russell of Strensham. He succeeded to the estates of Madresfield and elsewhere on the death of his father in 1584 but was required to sell off or mortgage much property over the years. In 1589, he was elected Member of Parliament for Worcestershire. In 1594, he had to sell the manor of Warndon, probably to pay for the rebuilding of the manor house at Madresfield. He was J.P. for Worcestershire from about 1591 and High Sheriff of Worcestershire from 1592 to 1593. He was Deputy Lieutenant and was commissioner for musters from 1595. House Of Commons Of England
The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. In 1801, with the union of Great Britain and Republic of Ireland, Ireland, that house was in turn replaced by the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Origins The Parliament of England developed from the Magnum Concilium that advised the English monarch in medieval times. This royal council, meeting for short periods, included ecclesiastics, noblemen, and representatives of the county, counties (known as "knights of the shire"). Samuel Sandys (died 1623)
Sir Samuel Sandys (28 December 1560 – 18 August 1623) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1586 and 1622. Biography Sandys was the eldest surviving son of Edwin Sandys, Archbishop of York, by his second wife Cecily Wilford. He was admitted to Merchant Taylors' School in April 1571, with his younger brothers Edwin and Miles (all three later became MPs). He entered the Middle Temple in 1579. He acquired the lease of the royal manor of Ombersley, Worcestershire in 1582. He was elected Member of Parliament for Ripon in 1586, and succeeded to the property of his father in 1588. Although he initially lived in Essex, where his mother held land – his eldest son was baptised at Woodham Ferrers in 1591 – he settled at Ombersley thereafter, purchased the manor of Wickhamford, Worcestershire in 1594, and purchased the manor of Ombersley from the Crown for £2,000 in 1614. Henry Bromley (died 1615)
Sir Henry Bromley (1560 – 15 May 1615) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons at various times between 1584 and 1604. He was twice imprisoned for his political activities, the second and most serious occasion in the aftermath of the Essex Rebellion. Restored to favour in the Jacobean period, he was vigorous in suppressing the Gunpowder Plot. Background Bromley was the eldest son of Thomas Bromley, Lord Chancellor and his wife Elizabeth Fortescue, daughter of Sir Adrian Fortescue of Shirburn, Oxfordshire.
