William Lindsay (diplomat)
William Lindsay was a Scottish diplomat and colonial governor. He was the second son of Sir David Lindsay of Evelick, of the Lindsay of Evelix family. He served as Great Britain's Resident to the Republic of Venice, as well as the Governor of Tobago in 1791. Like his elder brother John, he predeceased their father, and so David's titles passed to his third son, Charles. William Lindsay (footballer)
William Lindsay (3 August 1847 – 15 February 1923) was an English amateur footballer who, generally playing as a full back, helped the Wanderers win the FA Cup in 1876, 1877 (when he scored the winning goal) and 1878 and made one appearance for England in 1877. He also played cricket for Surrey between 1876 and 1882. Career Early life and education Lindsay was born in Benares, India, the son of Major William Lindsay of the 10th Regiment. His father and most of his family were killed during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 at the Siege of Cawnpore. In 1858 he was admitted to Winchester College as one of three boys orphaned by the Indian Mutiny and remained at the college until 1865. At school he was a keen sportsman and played cricket for the Commoners XI between 1862 and 1864, as well as for the school football team. William Donald Lindsey (born April 12, 1960) is an American former professional baseball catcher. He played during one season at the major league level for the Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). Dr William Lauder Lindsay FRSE FLS LRCS (19 December 1829-24 November 1880) was a Scottish physician and botanist. As a physician he largely worked in the field of mental health. As a botanist he specialised in lichens. Life He was born on 19 December 1829 at 20 Gardners Crescent in western Edinburgh the son of Helen Baird Lauder (1804-1883) and her husband James Lindsay of Register House/HM Sasine Office (1804-1874). He was educated at the High School in Edinburgh (being dux of 1844) then studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh receiving his doctorate (MD) in 1852 with the thesis 'The lichens'. In 1853 he began working as an assistant physician at the Crichton Royal Asylum in Dumfries. In 1854 he moved to be Physician at the Murray Royal Asylum in Perth and held this role until 1879. William Lindsay FRSE SSC (24 November 1819 - 20 February 1884) was a Scottish shipowner who served as Provost of Leith from 1860 to 1866. Lindsay Road in Edinburgh is named after him. As a lawyer he was responsible from framing the General Police and Improvement Act (Scotland) of 1869 which was known as the Lindsay Act. Life He was born in 1819 on Coburg Street in North Leith. He was the son of Captain James Lindsay (d.1839), a shipmaster, and his wife, Helen Allan of Alloa. He was apprenticed to Alexander Simson SSC nearby, at 38 Bernard Street as a solicitor. William Bethune Lindsay
Major General William Bethune Lindsay (3 November 1880 – 27 June 1933) was a Canadian military officer during World War I. Lindsay was born on 3 November 1880, the son of Dr. W, B. Lindsay, of Strathroy-Caradoc, Strathroy, Ontario, Canada. Lindsay was educated at Strathroy District Collegiate Institute and later enrolled at the Royal Military College of Canada. In 1900, he was appointed assistant engineer of the Department of Marine and Fisheries. Lindsay was one of the original officers of the Corps of Royal Canadian Engineers. During the First World War, he served as Chief Engineer of the Canadian Corps. He died at Toronto Hunt Club on 27 June 1933 and is buried at Strathroy Municipal Cemetery. References

William Alexander Lindsay (8 June 1846 – 13 September 1926) was a long-serving officer of arms at the College of Arms in London. Lindsay was the son of Hon. Colin Lindsay son of James 7th Earl of Balcarres, 24th Earl of Crawford and Lady Frances Howard, daughter of the Earl of Wicklow. On 7 May 1870, he married Lady Harriet Hamilton-Gordon, a daughter of the 5th Earl of Aberdeen and Mary Baillie. His heraldic career began in 1882 when he was appointed Portcullis Pursuivant in Ordinary at the College of Arms. He was promoted to the office of Windsor Herald of Arms in Ordinary in 1894. In 1919, he was promoted Norroy King of Arms after Charles Athill was promoted to Clarenceux King of Arms. Three years later, Lindsay followed Athill to the role of Clarenceux on Athill's death. William Lindsay (1802–1866) was a Scottish minister of the United Presbyterian Church. Life Born at Irvine, Ayrshire, Lindsay studied at Glasgow University, and the theological hall of the Relief Church in Paisley, in its early days, under Dr James Thomson. Lindsay was ordained minister of the Relief Church on 27 April 1830, with first charge the newly formed congregation at Johnstone, Renfrewshire. On 22 November 1832 he was translated to Dovehill Relief Church, Glasgow, a congregation formed in 1766, where he acted as colleague of John Barr, and on Barr's death in 1839 succeeding to the sole charge. In 1841 Lindsay was appointed professor of exegetical theology and biblical criticism by the Relief Synod. William Lindsay, 18th Earl of Crawford and 2nd Earl of Lindsay (April 1644 – 6 March 1698) was a Scottish noble and politician. Lindsay was the eldest son of John Lindsay, 10th Lord Lindsay of the Byres, 17th Earl of Crawford, and 1st Earl of Lindsay, by his wife, Lady Christian Hamilton, daughter of the Earl of Haddington.
