William Leslie Cazneau
William Leslie Cazneau (1807-1876) was a Texas pioneer and is credited with having buried the Alamo Heroes with full military honors. William Leslie Cazneau was born on October 5, 1807, at Boston, Massachusetts. In 1839 he moved to Texas and established a general merchandise business. Appointed on the staff of Thomas J. Chambers in 1835, he served until the Texas Army disbanded. He was dispatched to the United States to raise men and supplies and was assigned the burial of the remains of the Alamo heroes, as well as the guarding of Mexican prisoners on Galveston island. He moved to Austin in 1839 and was appointed Commissary General by Mirabeau B. Lamar. An influential figure in Texas politics, Cazneau represented Travis County in the Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Congresses, in the Convention of 1845, and in the First Legislature. Alamo
The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a pivotal event in the Texas Revolution. Following a 13-day siege, Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna reclaimed the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas, United States), killing most of the occupants inside. Santa Anna's refusal to take prisoners during the battle inspired many Texians and Tejanos to join the Texian Army. Motivated by a desire for revenge, as well as their written desire to preserve a border open to immigration and the importation and practice of slavery, the Texians defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, ending the rebellion in favor of the newly formed Republic of Texas. José Gabriel García
José Gabriel García (January 13, 1834 - January 19, 1910) was a Dominican Republic, Dominican army officer, historian, politician, journalist and publisher. He is regarded as a cultural pioneer as well as the "Father of Dominican History". He was the author of "Compendium of History of Santo Domingo", published in four volumes in 1867, 1887, 1900 and 1906 respectively, and made numerous contributions in the fields of culture, literature and education. Jane Cazneau
Jane Maria Eliza Cazneau (née McManus, widowed Storm; April 6, 1768 – December 12, 1878) was an Irish-American journalist, lobbyist, and publicist who advocated the annexation of all of Mexico during the Mexican–American War. Education and early career She was born on April 6, 1807, in Brunswick, Rensselaer County, New York, the daughter of Congressman William McManus and Catharine (Coons) McManus. She attended Troy Female Seminary, one of the earliest colleges for women, but did not graduate. On August 22, 1825, she married Allen B. Storm. They separated in 1831, and Allen Storm died 1838 in New York City. Their son, William Mont Storm (b. August 2, 1826), became an inventor whose first invention was patented on Feb. 4, 1851 for an "Improved method of obtaining motive power".
