William Lawrence (Ohio Democrat)
William Lawrence (September 2, 1814 – September 8, 1895) was a Senator, Congressman, and member of the United States House of Representatives from the 17th District of Ohio. He also served as President of the board of directors of the Ohio Penitentiary. Lawrence was born in Washington, Guernsey County, Ohio. He graduated from Jefferson College (now Washington & Jefferson College) in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania in 1835. After farming for a few years, Lawrence was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1843. He was a Presidential elector in 1848 for Secretary of State Lewis Cass, and Congressman William Orlando Butler. He was a delegate to the Ohio State constitutional convention in 1851. Sir William Lawrence, 5th Baronet
Sir William Fettiplace Lawrence, 5th Baronet, OBE (23 August 1954 – 10 February 2015) was an English baronet and politician. Lawrence was born on 23 August 1954, the son of Sir William Lawrence and his wife Pamela, Lady Lawrence. He was educated at King Edward VI School, Stratford-upon-Avon. He succeeded to his father's baronetcy in 1986 (see Lawrence Baronets). His unusual middle name came from the Fettiplace family from which the Lawrences were descended. Lawrence filled numerous roles in his political career, specialising in the promotion of tourism in the Midlands. Bill Lawrence (born Willi Lorenz Stich; March 24, 1931 – November 2, 2013) was a pickup and guitar designer He was born in Wahn, Cologne, Germany and began his musical career in the 1950s as a jazz guitarist, performing under the name Billy Lorento. He died in Southern California, United States. As a musician, Lawrence created pickups that he felt best suited his needs and performance style, and went on to work with Framus and became an endorser, including such models as the "Billy Lorento" 5/120. He was also an endorser for Fender in Europe. Moving to the United States, Lawrence designed pickups and assisted in electric guitar design for Fender, Gibson, Peavey and other companies. While at Gibson from 1968-1972, Lawrence helped design the "super-humbucker" pickup and the L6-S. William Witherle Lawrence (1876 − July 25, 1958) was an American philologist who served as Professor of English at Columbia University from 1905 to 1936. Biography William Witherle Lawrence was born in Bangor, Maine in 1876. His father, Franklin M. Lawrence, was the founder of the Portland Stove Foundry. Lawrence graduated from Bowdoin College in 1898. He received additional degrees from the Leipzig University and Harvard University. Lawrence taught German at Harvard University from 1900 to 1903. In 1903 he was appointed Professor of English at the University of Kansas. Since 1905 he served as Professor of English at Columbia University, where he would stay until his retirement in 1936. William Van Duzer Lawrence (1842–1927) was an American millionaire real-estate and pharmaceutical mogul who is best known for having founded Sarah Lawrence College in 1926 and Lawrence Hospital in 1909. Robert William Lawrence
Robert William Lawrence (1807–1833), first-born son of William Effingham Lawrence, was born and educated in England. In 1825 he arrived in Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) (per the Elizabeth). He became acquainted with Sir William Jackson Hooker, the Regius Professor of Botany at the University of Glasgow and later director of the Botanical Gardens at Kew in London, from whose friendship he developed a passion as an amateur botanist, sending many specimens from the Colony to Kew, resulting in Hooker’s "Flora Tasmaniae" in 1860. William Effingham Lawrence (1781–1841) was an English colonist to Australia, the son of Captain Effingham Lawrence, a merchant with houses in London, Liverpool and New York City. Previous generations of Lawrences had settled in the American colonies but returned to England after the War of Independence. Lawrence was an educated and refined man, an intimate of Jeremy Bentham, who was obliged to migrate to the colony of Van Diemen’s Land due to poor health. William Dawson Lawrence (16 July 1817 – 8 December 1886) was a successful shipbuilder, businessman and politician. He built the ''William D. Lawrence'', which is reported to be the largest wooden ship ever built in Canada. In 1874, W.D. Lawrence's great ship was reported to have been the largest wooden sailing ship in the world. The William D. Lawrence represents the pinnacle of W.D.'s career as a marine architect, businessman, and politician. He built the ship in Maitland, Hants County, Nova Scotia.
