William James Knight
William James Knight (1837–1916) was an American soldier, participant in the Andrews raid and Medal of Honor recipient. Biography Knight was born on January 24, 1837, in Apple Creek, Ohio. He trained as an engineer. He enlisted as a private in Company E of the 21st Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 29, 1861. He was one of 22 soldiers who volunteered for the Andrews Raid of April, 1862. He escaped from the Confederates following his capture. He was awarded the Medal of Honor in September, 1863. He lived in Williams County for the remainder of his life. He died on September 26, 1916, and is now buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Stryker, Ohio Stryker is a village in Williams County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,335 at the 2010 census. William Frederick Knight (December 6, 1933 – November 8, 2022), sometimes credited as William Knight, William Frederick, or Frederick Knight, was an American voice actor who lent his voice to the English dubs of anime and video games. He was often cast in the role of a wise old man, such as in ''Ghost in the Shell'' (as Daisuke Aramaki), ''The Big O'' (as Gordon Rosewater), ''Paranoia Agent'' (as the old man), and ''Eureka Seven'' (as Kuzemi, one of the three Sages). William Knight (born 26 July 1951) is a retired British boxer. Boxing career He competed in the men's middleweight event at the 1972 Summer Olympics. In his first fight, he defeated Julius Luipa of Zambia, before losing to Alejandro Montoya of Cuba in the next round. William Knight (1475/76 – 1547) was the Secretary of State to Henry VIII of England, and Bishop of Bath and Wells. Knight was sent to Rome in 1527 to try to get Henry's marriage to Catherine of Aragon annulled. He rebuilt Horton Court in Gloucestershire using ideas from Italian architecture. Life Born in London, he entered Winchester School as a scholar in 1487, and proceeded in 1491 to New College, Oxford, where he became Fellow in 1493. He afterwards proceeded D.C.L. 12 October 1531. In 1495 Knight went to court, where Henry VII made him one of his secretaries. He was frequently employed as an ambassador in the reign of Henry VIII. On 3 June 1512 he went with Sir Edward Howard to Spain, and, after storms and sickness, reached Valladolid 18 February 1513. William Knight (1572 – 29 November 1596) was an English layman put to death for his Catholic faith at York, England. With him also suffered George Errington of Herst, Northumberland; William Gibson of Ripon; and Henry Abbot of Howden, Yorkshire. Life Knight, apparently a secret convert to the Catholic Church, was the son of a Leonard Knight and lived at South Duffield, a hamlet currently in the Selby District of North Yorkshire. On coming of age, he claimed from his uncle some property which had been left to him by his father, an Anglican, and his uncle denounced him to the authorities for being a Roman Catholic. William Knight ( fl. 1684-1689) was a 17th-century English buccaneer and pirate known for joining privateering expeditions against Spanish colonies in Central and South America. History Knight may have lived in Port Royal, Jamaica since 1675, but by September 1684 he and 50 men set out to raid the Spanish, crossing the Isthmus of Panama, building canoes once they reached the Pacific coast. Some of his sailors became separated, joining with Francis Townley, Edward Davis, and Charles Swan, as well as French buccaneers under Francois Grogniet and Jean L’Escuyer. Knight and the rest of his crew cruised off El Salvador and Ecuador then joined the larger group in March 1685. The buccaneers engaged a Spanish fleet in June but were forced to retreat. William Knight (1840 - 21 November 1923) was an English architect based in Nottingham. Career He was born in Sneinton, Nottingham, the son of William Knight (1808-1897), timber merchant, and Mary Ann (b. 1817). He had offices at 28 Derby Road, and in 1882 moved to East Circus Street, Nottingham. He married Elizabeth Lindsay Symington (1842-1894), 3rd daughter of James Symington, on 3 April 1872 in St Helen's Church, Oxendon, Leicestershire and they had the following children: *William P. William Knight was an English professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Southampton in the years prior to World War I. Football career Knight was born in Toogates, Tamworth and began his career at Walsall, before being spotted by Aston Villa in 1907. He joined Villa as an amateur and spent some time with their nursery club, Stourbridge. In 1911, he had a trial with Southampton of the Southern League, in which he "''shaped up well''" and, much against the wishes of the Villa directors, he moved to the south coast in May 1911. William Arthur Knight (born 12 November 1935) is a former tennis player from Great Britain who competed on the amateur tour in the 1950s and 1960s. Tennis career Juniors Before focusing on tennis Knight also played table tennis and won the English singles title in 1951. As a tennis junior he won both the 1953 Wimbledon and 1954 Australian Championships Boys' Singles tournaments.
