William J. Keester
William J. Keester was a rear admiral in the United States Coast Guard. Biography Keester was born on June 6, 1889, in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from John Marshall Metropolitan High School in 1907. in 1916, he married Verna A. Short. Keester died on September 14, 1967, in Salisbury, Maryland. Career Keester entered the School of Instruction of the Revenue Cutter Service in 1907. He received his commission in 1910 and was then assigned to the USRC Seminole. In 1912, while serving aboard the USRC Manning, Keester took part in the rescue and relief of those effected by the eruption of Mount Katmai. He and his crew received a letter commendation from President William Howard Taft. After serving aboard the USCGC Unalga (WPG-53) and the USRC Mackinac, the United States Revenue Cutter Service merged with the United States Life-Saving Service to form the Coast Guard in 1915. Palm Beach, Florida
Palm Beach is an incorporated town in Palm Beach County, Florida. Located on a barrier island in east-central Palm Beach County, the town is separated from several nearby cities including West Palm Beach and Lake Worth Beach by the Intracoastal Waterway to its west, though Palm Beach borders a small section of the latter and South Palm Beach at its southern boundaries. As of the 2020 census, Palm Beach had a year-round population of 9,245, an increase from 8,348 people in the 2010 census. Further, around 25,000 people reside in the town between November and April. USCGC Mendota (WHEC-69)
USCGC ''Mendota'' (WHEC-69) was an ''Owasco'' class high endurance cutter built for World War II service with the United States Coast Guard. The ship was commissioned three months before the end of the war and did not see combat action until the Vietnam war. ''Mendota'' was built by the Coast Guard yard at Curtis Bay, Maryland, one of only two ''Owasco'' class vessels not to be built by Western Pipe & Steel. Commendation Medal
The Commendation Medal is a mid-level United States military decoration presented for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service. Each branch of the United States Armed Forces issues its own version of the Commendation Medal, with a fifth version existing for acts of joint military service performed under the Department of Defense. The Commendation Medal was originally only a service ribbon and was first awarded by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard in 1943. An Army Commendation Ribbon followed in 1945 and in 1949 the Navy, Coast Guard, and Army Commendation ribbons were renamed the "Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant".
