William J. Hole, Jr.
William J. Hole Jr. (1918–1990) was an American film director of mainly B-movies. Life and career He first worked in movies as an extra in the 1938 feature film, ''Springtime in the Rockies''. He then served in World War II, joining the Army. After the war, he returned to films as a script supervisor on such pictures as ''My Girl Tessa'' (1948), the noir thriller '' Tension'' (1949), and the 3-D crime film '' I, the Jury'' (1953). In 1957, he directed his first film, '' Hell Bound'', a gritty noir thriller starring John Russell. Made for Howard W. Koch and Edwin F. Zabel of Bel-Air Productions and released by United Artists, it was described by ''Variety'' as an "okay programmer" but goes on to say, "the action is especially well staged, and makes fine use of some off-beat backgrounds." The reviewer thought, however, that the film's violence "will not appeal to the squeamish". He made six more films between 1959 and 1964, all low budget affairs, and afterwards was mainl ...

B-movie
A B movie or B film is a low-budget commercial motion picture. In its original usage, during the Golden Age of Hollywood, the term more precisely identified films intended for distribution as the less-publicized bottom half of a double feature (akin to B-sides for recorded music). However, the U.S. production of films intended as second features largely ceased by the end of the 1950s. With the emergence of commercial television at that time, film studio B movie production departments changed into television film production divisions. They created much of the same type of content in low budget films and series. The term ''B movie'' continues to be used in its broader sense to this day. In its post-Golden Age usage, B movies can range from lurid exploitation films to independent arthouse films. In either usage, most B movies represent a particular genre—the Western was a Golden Age B movie staple, while low-budget science-fiction and horror films became more popular in the ...

Ghost Of Dragstrip Hollow
''Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow'' is a 1959 AIP horror/comedy film. It was a sequel to their film ''Hot Rod Gang''. American International Pictures released the film in July 1959 as a double feature with ''Diary of a High School Bride''. The film spoofed the 1950s monster and drag racing films of AIP, and has been regarded as a forerunner of the 1960s ''Beach Party'' films. Spoofs like this film helped bring a close to AIP's 1950s low-budget horror film genre. This was the last monster movie that special effects technician Paul Blaisdell worked on. Plot After being evicted from their old clubhouse, members of a Los Angeles drag racing club move into an old deserted mansion and set up shop, making it their new headquarters. For the club's grand opening, they hold a Halloween masked ball and invite everyone to come dressed as their favorite monster. The festivities take an unexpected turn when one of the youths discovers an imposter among them: a real live monster (AIP's oft-reused ''She ...

Griffith, Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks, the studio was premised on allowing actors to control their own interests, rather than being dependent upon commercial studios. UA was repeatedly bought, sold, and restructured over the ensuing century. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer acquired the studio in 1981 for a reported $350 million ($ billion today). On September 22, 2014, MGM acquired a controlling interest in entertainment companies One Three Media and Lightworkers Media, then merged them to revive United Artists' television production unit as United Artists Media Group (UAMG). However, on December 14 of the following year, MGM wholly acquired UAMG and folded it into MGM Television. United Artists was again revived in 2018 as United Artists Digital Studios. Howard W
Howard is an English-language given name originating from Old French Huard (or Houard) from a Germanic source similar to Old High German ''*Hugihard'' "heart-brave", or ''*Hoh-ward'', literally "high defender; chief guardian". It is also probably in some cases a confusion with the Old Norse cognate ''Haward'' (''Hávarðr''), which means "high guard" and as a surname also with the unrelated Hayward. In some rare cases it is from the Old English ''eowu hierde'' "ewe herd". In Anglo-Norman the French digram ''-ou-'' was often rendered as ''-ow-'' such as ''tour'' → ''tower'', ''flour'' (western variant form of ''fleur'') → ''flower'', etc. (with svarabakhti). A diminutive is "Howie" and its shortened form is "Ward" (most common in the 19th century). Between 1900 and 1960, Howard ranked in the U.S. Top 200; between 1960 and 1990, it ranked in the U.S. Top 400; between 1990 and 2004, it ranked in the U.S. Top 600. People with the given name Howard or its variants include: Given ...
