William J. Hole, Jr.
William J. Hole Jr. (1918–1990) was an American film director of mainly B-movies. Life and career He first worked in movies as an extra in the 1938 feature film, ''Springtime in the Rockies''. He then served in World War II, joining the Army. After the war, he returned to films as a script supervisor on such pictures as ''My Girl Tessa'' (1948), the noir thriller '' Tension'' (1949), and the 3-D crime film '' I, the Jury'' (1953). In 1957, he directed his first film, '' Hell Bound'', a gritty noir thriller starring John Russell. Made for Howard W. Koch and Edwin F. Zabel of Bel-Air Productions and released by United Artists, it was described by ''Variety'' as an "okay programmer" but goes on to say, "the action is especially well staged, and makes fine use of some off-beat backgrounds." B-movie
A B movie or B film is a low-budget commercial motion picture. In its original usage, during the Golden Age of Hollywood, the term more precisely identified films intended for distribution as the less-publicized bottom half of a double feature (akin to B-sides for recorded music). However, the U.S. production of films intended as second features largely ceased by the end of the 1950s. With the emergence of commercial television at that time, film studio B movie production departments changed into television film production divisions. They created much of the same type of content in low budget films and series. The term ''B movie'' continues to be used in its broader sense to this day. In its post-Golden Age usage, B movies can range from lurid exploitation films to independent arthouse films. ''Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow'' is a 1959 AIP horror/comedy film. It was a sequel to their film ''Hot Rod Gang''. American International Pictures released the film in July 1959 as a double feature with ''Diary of a High School Bride''. The film spoofed the 1950s monster and drag racing films of AIP, and has been regarded as a forerunner of the 1960s ''Beach Party'' films. Spoofs like this film helped bring a close to AIP's 1950s low-budget horror film genre. This was the last monster movie that special effects technician Paul Blaisdell worked on. Plot After being evicted from their old clubhouse, members of a Los Angeles drag racing club move into an old deserted mansion and set up shop, making it their new headquarters.
