William Horrmann
William Horrmann (1863–1927) was an American businessman from Staten Island, New York. He was the eldest son of German immigrant August Horrmann, who co-founded the Rubsam & Horrmann Brewing Company on Staten Island in 1871. William later ran the family business on Broad Street in the Stapleton neighborhood. Business career Due to the good quality of the water in Staten Island, Stapleton boasted many breweries in its past. The Rubsam & Horrmann Brewing Company was one of the largest on the Island, the longest-lasting and most-successful brewery in the region, and was still being operated by Piels Beer until 1963. Rubsam & Horrmann was revived in 2019 by Brian "Q" Quinn, a member of The Tenderloins from ''Impractical Jokers''. Stapleton is a neighborhood in northeastern Staten Island in New York City in the United States. It is located along the waterfront of Upper New York Bay, roughly bounded on the north by Tompkinsville at Grant Street, on the south by Clifton at Vanderbilt Avenue, and on the west by St. Paul's Avenue and Van Duzer Street, which form the border with the community of Grymes Hill. Piels Beer, also called Piel Bros. Beer and Piel's Beer, is a regional lager beer, originally brewed in the East New York section of Brooklyn, New York City, at 315 Liberty Avenue. History Origins Piels was founded in 1883 by the Piel brothers: Gottfried, Michael and Wilhelm Piel. Michael (born in Stoffeln, Düsseldorf am Rhein, Germany, March 29, 1849; died at Lake Parlin, Maine, June 12, 1915) was the brewer. Brian Michael "Q" Quinn (born March 14, 1976) is an American podcaster, improvisational comedian, and actor. He is a member of The Tenderloins, a comedy troupe also consisting of Sal Vulcano, James Murray, and formerly Joe Gatto. Along with the other members of The Tenderloins, he stars in the television series ''Impractical Jokers'', which premiered on December 15, 2011, on TruTV. Early life Quinn was born on March 14, 1976, in the borough of Brooklyn in New York City, but moved to Staten Island before he was two years old. He is of Irish and Italian ancestry. Origin The comedians met in religion class during their freshman year at Monsignor Farrell High School on Staten Island in 1990. After discovering their mutual interests in drama and improv, the group joined an improv club because "It was the only way to meet girls", since they attended an all-boys school. To come up with a name for their comedy troupe, the friends referenced a list of words kept by member Sal Vulcano that he would find embarrassing to say, such as "cullottes," "gargoyles," and "nougat." Grymes Hill is a tall hill formed of serpentine rock on Staten Island, New York. It is the second highest natural point on the island and in the five boroughs of New York City. The Corn Exchange Bank was a retail bank founded in 1853 in New York state. Over the years, the company acquired many community banks. History In 1855, the Corn Exchange Bank moved into an existing building in New York City at the northwest corner of William and Beaver Streets in Manhattan.
