Poverty Bay
Poverty Bay (Māori: ''Tūranganui-a-Kiwa'') is the largest of several small bays on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island to the north of Hawke Bay. It stretches for from Young Nick's Head in the southwest to Tuaheni Point in the northeast. The city of Gisborne is located on the northern shore of the bay and the small settlement of Muriwai is located at the bay's southern end. The name is often used by extension to refer to the entire area surrounding the city of Gisborne. Poverty Bay is the home of the Māori iwi (tribes) Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki, Rongowhakaata and Ngāi Tāmanuhiri. In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. Batters further down the batting order than the not out batters do not come out to the crease at all and are noted as ''did not bat'' rather than ''not out''; by contrast, a batter who comes to the crease but faces no balls is ''not out''. A batter who ''retires hurt'' is considered not out; an uninjured batter who retires (rare) is considered ''retired out''. Bay Of Plenty Cricket Team
The Bay of Plenty cricket team represents the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand. It competes in the Hawke Cup. History Cricket has been played in the Bay of Plenty region since the 1860s and possibly earlier. A Tauranga Cricket Club was formed in 1868. A Bay of Plenty team, consisting of players from Tauranga, Opotiki and Katikati, visited Auckland to play against four club teams over four days in December 1881. The current Bay of Plenty Cricket Association, the first to cover the whole region, was formed in August 1931. It was the 23rd association to become affiliated with the New Zealand Cricket Council, and thus became eligible to compete in the Hawke Cup. Bay of Plenty were outclassed in their first challenges for the Hawke Cup, losing by wide margins to South Auckland in March 1932 and to Waikato (the renamed South Auckland team) in December 1938. Plunket Shield
New Zealand has had a domestic first-class cricket championship since the 1906–07 season. Since the 2009–10 season it has been known by its original name of the Plunket Shield. History The Plunket Shield competition was instigated in October 1906 with the donation of a shield by William Plunket, 5th Baron Plunket, who was the Governor-General of New Zealand from 1904 to 1910. For the 1906–07 inaugural season, the Shield was allotted by the New Zealand Cricket Council "to the Association whose representative team it considers to have the best record for the season". After the Council awarded the Shield to Canterbury, chiefly because Canterbury were the only provincial team to beat the visiting MCC, Auckland representatives complained that Auckland should have received the Shield as their team was superior but had not had the chance to prove it as none of the other provincial teams had played Auckland during the season. Afaq Hussain ( ur, آفاق حسین) (31 December 1939 – 25 February 2002) was a Pakistani cricketer who played in two Tests from 1961 to 1964. Afaq Hussain holds a unique record in Test cricket, having scored the most Test runs (66) without being dismissed. He scored 10* and 35* against England at Lahore in October 1961, and 8* and 13* against Australia at Melbourne in December 1964. He toured England with the Pakistan team in 1962, and again in 1963 with the Pakistan Eaglets, and was part of the Pakistan team that toured Australia and New Zealand in 1964–65. An "quickish" off-spin bowler and useful lower-order batsman, Hussain played for various first-class teams in Pakistan between 1957 and 1974. Abdul Kadir (cricketer)
Abdul Kadir Jamali (; 10 May 1944 – 12 March 2002, Karachi) was a Pakistani cricketer who played in four Tests from 1964 to 1965. A wicket-keeper, Abdul was run out for 95 on his Test debut, against Australia at Karachi. He had opened the batting with Khalid Ibadulla with whom he made 249, also this is the only 200+ stand by two debutants for any wicket in the history of test cricket. He was also the first sindhi speaking cricketer in Pakistan. He was the first Pakistani cricketer to be dismissed in the 90's on test debut. His only other Test half century was an innings of 58 at Auckland. Abdul Kadir got his earlier education from Sindh Madrasatul Islam. Hamilton ( mi, Kirikiriroa) is an inland city in the North Island of New Zealand. Located on the banks of the Waikato River, it is the seat and most populous city of the Waikato region. Mohammad Ilyas Mahmood ( ur, ; born 19 March 1946) is a former Pakistani cricketer who played in ten Test matches between 1964 and 1969. Cricket career Ilyas was an opening batsman and occasional leg-spin bowler. He played first-class cricket in Pakistan from 1961 to 1972. He scored 126 in the Third Test against New Zealand in Karachi in April 1965, when Pakistan needed 202 to win in five and half hours, and reached the target with a session to spare for the loss of only two wickets. He made his highest first-class score in December 1964, when he scored 154 against South Australia. He toured Australia a second time with the Pakistan team in 1972–73, but was injured early in the tour and omitted from the team before it left for the New Zealand leg of the tour.
