William Henry Maturin
William Henry Maturin, (1814 – 5 March 1889) was a senior public servant in the early days of the colony of South Australia and had a further career in Great Britain. He and his brother Augustus arrived in Adelaide on the brig ''Elizabeth Buckham'' on 22 June 1843, and took the place of W. C. Darling in the Commissariat Department under administrator Henry Young, Sir Henry E. Fox Young, acting as his private secretary and holding the position of Deputy Assistant Commissary General and Australian National Audit Office, Auditor General, was promoted to Assistant Director in 1847, then Private Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor in May 1849, and at the same time appointed to the South Australian Legislative Council, Legislative Council, but almost immediately relinquishing both when he was made acting Treasurer of South Australia, Colonial Treasurer, reverting to Private Secretary in 1851. Glenelg, South Australia
Glenelg is a beach-side suburb of the South Australian capital of Adelaide. Located on the shore of Holdfast Bay in Gulf St Vincent, it has become a tourist destination due to its beach and many attractions, home to several hotels and dozens of restaurants. Established in 1836, it is the oldest European settlement on mainland South Australia. It was named after Lord Glenelg, a member of British Cabinet and Secretary of State for War and the Colonies. Through Lord Glenelg the name derives from Glenelg, Highland, Scotland. Encounter Bay
Encounter Bay is a bay in the Australian state of South Australia located on the state's south central coast about south of the state capital of Adelaide. It was named by Matthew Flinders after his encounter on 8 April 1802 with Nicolas Baudin, the commander of the Baudin expedition of 1800–03. It is the site of both the mouth of the River Murray and the regional city of Victor Harbor. It is one of four "historic bays" located on the South Australian coast. Extent There are at least two definitions of the bay’s extent: *Firstly, the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency states that Newland Head is its westerly extremity while the mouth of the River Murray is the easterly extremity. *Secondly, Australian authorities consider the bay’s extent consists of all of the sea north of a line running east from the southern tip of Rosetta Head to the Younghusband Peninsula. Goolwa, South Australia
Goolwa is a historic river port on the Murray River near the Murray Mouth in South Australia, and joined by a bridge to Hindmarsh Island. The name "Goolwa" means "elbow" in Ngarrindjeri, the local Aboriginal language, and the area was known as "The Elbow" to the early settlers. Goolwa is approximately 85 km south of Adelaide, and is the seat of the Alexandrina Council. It is in the state electoral district of Hammond and the federal Division of Mayo. At the 2011 census, the state suburb of Goolwa (excluding Goolwa Beach, Goolwa North and Goolwa South) had a population of 2,201. Port Elliot, South Australia
Port Elliot is a town in South Australia toward the eastern end of the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is situated on the sheltered Horseshoe Bay, a small bay off the much larger Encounter Bay. Pullen Island lies outside the mouth of the bay. At the , Port Elliot had a population of 1,754, although this section of the coast is now built up almost all the way from Goolwa to Victor Harbor. Lady Bay is a small bay at the south-western end of Horseshoe Bay, past the jetty.
