William Henry Harrison Morris Jr.
Lieutenant general (United States), Lieutenant General William Henry Harrison Morris Jr. (March 22, 1890 – March 30, 1971) was a senior United States Army Officer (armed forces), officer who fought in both World War I and World War II. Early life and military career William Morris was born in the Ocean Grove, New Jersey, Ocean Grove section of Neptune Township, New Jersey, Neptune Township, New Jersey on March 22, 1890. After graduating from grammar school and high school he was appointed by Member of Congress, Congressman Benjamin Franklin Howell to the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, New York in 1907. World War I
World War I (28 July 1914 11 November 1918), often abbreviated as WWI, was one of the deadliest global conflicts in history. Belligerents included much of Europe, the Russian Empire, the United States, and the Ottoman Empire, with fighting occurring throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Pacific, and parts of Asia. United States Military Academy
The United States Military Academy (USMA), also known metonymically as West Point or simply as Army, is a United States service academy in West Point, New York. It was originally established as a fort, since it sits on strategic high ground overlooking the Hudson River with a scenic view, north of New York City. It is the oldest of the five American service academies and educates cadets for commissioning into the United States Army. The academy was founded in 1802, one year after President Thomas Jefferson directed that plans be set in motion to establish it. It was constructed on site of Fort Clinton on West Point overlooking the Hudson, which Colonial General Benedict Arnold conspired to turn over to the British during the Revolutionary War. Benjamin Franklin Howell (January 27, 1844 – February 1, 1933) was an American Republican Party politician who represented in the United States House of Representatives from 1895 to 1911. Early life and education Born in Cedarville, New Jersey, Howell attended the common schools, and graduated from Fort Edward Institute, New York. He enlisted in the Twelfth Regiment, New Jersey Volunteers, in 1862 and served until the close of the war. He engaged in mercantile pursuits in South Amboy, New Jersey, 1865 and was named to the Township Committee, and served as Surrogate of Middlesex County from 1882 to 1892. Neptune Township, New Jersey
Neptune Township is a township in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 U.S. census, the township's population was 28,061, an increase of 126 from the 2010 census enumeration of 27,935, in turn an increase of 245 (+0.9%) from the 27,690 counted in the 2000 census. Neptune was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 26, 1879, from portions of Ocean Township.
