William Henry Bouverie
Hon. William Henry Bouverie (1752–1806) was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons for 26 years from 1776 to 1802. Bouverie was the second son of William Bouverie, 1st Earl of Radnor and his second wife Rebecca Alleyne, daughter of John Alleyne, and was born on 30 October 1752. He was educated at Harrow School about 1765 and matriculated at University College, Oxford on 19 March 1771. He was awarded BA in 1773 and MA in 1776. He married Lady Bridget Douglas, daughter of James Douglas, 14th Earl of Morton on 16 August 1777. In January 1776, Bouverie's father died and his step-brother was raised to the peerage, leaving a vacancy at Salisbury. Bouverie was returned without a contest as Member of Parliament for Salisbury on the family interest in the ensuing by-election on 19 February 1776. He was re-elected unopposed in 1780. The House of Commons is the name for the elected lower house of the bicameral parliaments of the United Kingdom and Canada. In both of these countries, the Commons holds much more legislative power than the nominally upper house of parliament. The leader of the majority party in the House of Commons by convention becomes the prime minister. Other parliaments have also had a lower house called a "House of Commons". History and naming The House of Commons of the Kingdom of England evolved from an undivided parliament to serve as the voice of the tax-paying subjects of the counties and of the boroughs. Knights of the shire, elected from each county, were usually landowners, while the borough members were often from the merchant classes. The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, commonly known as Drury Lane, is a West End theatre and Grade I listed building in Covent Garden, London, England. The building faces Catherine Street (earlier named Bridges or Brydges Street) and backs onto Drury Lane. The building is the most recent in a line of four theatres which were built at the same location, the earliest of which dated back to 1663, making it the oldest theatre site in London still in use. According to the author Peter Thomson, for its first two centuries, Drury Lane could "reasonably have claimed to be London's leading theatre". William Hussey (died 1813)
William Hussey (c.1724 – 26 January 1813) was an English businessman and politician who sat in the House of Commons for 48 years from 1765 to 1813. Early life Hussey was baptised on 1 January 1725, the son of John Hussey, Mayor of Salisbury in 1737. On his father's death in 1739 he inherited property in Wiltshire and Dorset and became a successful clothier in Salisbury. He married firstly Mary Eyre, the daughter of John Eyre of Landford Lodge, Wiltshire, on 9 October 1752. She died on 21 May 1754. In 1755 he was elected a councillor for the city of Salisbury, becoming an alderman in 1756 and mayor in 1759. He married secondly Jane Marsh, daughter of Robert Marsh, a London merchant and Governor of the Bank of England on 5 April 1758. Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 2nd Earl of Radnor FRS FSA (4 March 1750 – 27 January 1828), styled Hon. Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie from 1761 to 1765 and Viscount Folkestone from 1765 to 1776, was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1771 to 1776 when he succeeded to the peerage as Earl of Radnor. Life Born in Westminster, he was the son of William Bouverie, 1st Earl of Radnor and Harriet Pleydell, the daughter of Sir Mark Stuart Pleydell of Coleshill House in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire). Jacob was educated at Harrow and University College, Oxford, from which he took a BA in 1770 and an MA in 1773. He was returned to the House of Commons for Salisbury upon his coming of age in 1771. He succeeded his father as Earl of Radnor on 23 January 1776 and as Recorder of Salisbury on 13 March 1776. On 15 February 1779, Radnor was made a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.
