Bill Hennessy (Kilkenny Hurler)
William Hennessy (born 13 May 1968) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Tullaroan and was also a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. After beginning his career at wing-back he later lined out at midfield. Career Hennessy first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Tullaroan club before eventually joining the club's top adult team. He enjoyed his first success in 1988 when Tullaroan won the County Intermediate Championship before claiming the County Senior Championship title in 1994. Hennessy first appeared on the inter-county scene with the Kilkenny under-21 team that suffered All-Ireland final defeat by Cork in 1988. This success saw him drafted on to the Kilkenny senior hurling team in 1989. Hennessy would go on to line out in three consecutive All-Ireland finals at senior level and, after defeat by Tipperary in 1991, claimed consecutive winners' medals against Cork in 1992 and Galway in 1993. William Hennessy (violinist)
Violinist William Hennessy was the founder of the Australian String Quartet. He led the quartet from its formation in 1985 until 1996. Since 2006 he has been Artistic Director of the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, the orchestra which Jeffrey Crellin founded in 1991 under its original name Australia Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra. But for over 30 years William Hennessy has seen advocacy of the music of Douglas Weiland as his primary artistic responsibility. In 2018 he created THE WEILAND PROJECT in order to bring the music of Douglas Weiland to world attention for the reference and pleasure of present and future generations. William John Hennessy (11 July 1839 – 27 December 1917) was an Irish people, Irish-American artist. Life William John Hennessy (originally Ó hAonghusa) was born in Thomastown, County Kilkenny, Thomastown, County Kilkenny on 11 July 1839. His father, John Hennessy, was forced to leave Ireland in 1848 as a result of his involvement in the Young Ireland movement. He landed in Canada and settled in New York City. Hennessy, his mother Catherine (née Laffin), and brother joined their father there in July 1849. He gained admittance to the National Academy of Design in 1854 and exhibited his first works there. Hennessy was very skilled in wood engraving and was hired to illustrate the works of renowned poets, including that of Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson, Tennyson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Longfellow and John Greenleaf Whittier, Whittier.
