William Gibbons (April 8, 1726 – September 27, 1800) was an American lawyer and revolutionary from Georgia. William Conrad Gibbons
William Conrad Gibbons (September 26, 1926 – July 4, 2015) was an American historian and foreign policy expert. Life and career Gibbons was born in 1926 in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to Howard and Jessie Gibbons. He entered the University of Virginia in 1945. His studies were interrupted in order to serve in World War II but he returned to finish his college education at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia and was graduated in 1949. Dr. Gibbons went on to earn his Masters and Ph.D. in Government from Princeton University in 1957 and was in the 1954–55 class of the American Political Science Association Congressional Fellowship Program. He worked in Capitol Hill for both Senator Wayne Morse and Senator Mike Mansfield and also served as an advance man for presidential contender Lyndon B. Johnson in 1960. Bill Gibbons is the Executive Director at The Public Safety Institute at the University of Memphis. Gibbons was previously Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security until 2016. He was appointed to the post by the Governor of Tennessee, Bill Haslam. He is a former District Attorney General of the 30th Judicial District of Tennessee, which includes Shelby County and the city of Memphis, Tennessee. He was a Republican candidate in the 2010 Tennessee gubernatorial election, but dropped out on March 26, 2010 due to "lack of sufficient campaign funds to go forward." Early life Gibbons was born and raised on a small farm in southern Arkansas, the youngest of six children. When Gibbons was 4, his father, an alcoholic, abandoned him and his family leaving it impoverished. Bill Gibbons, Jr. is a former American women's basketball coach. As head coach for College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, Gibbons was one of the longest tenured coaches in the NCAA Division 1, having debuted as coach during the 1985-1986 season and coaching at Holy Cross until 2019. In 2007, Gibbons was an assistant coach on the United States squad that won the gold medal in women's basketball at the Pan American Games. In October 2014, Gibbons was removed as head basketball coach after a former player, Ashley Cooper, filed a lawsuit against him alleging physical and verbal abuse. He was reinstated to the team in January 2015 after Holy Cross investigated and concluded that "The College believes the lawsuit's allegations have no legal merit" and were false;. He began his career in the band the Moving Sidewalks, which recorded a full-length album entitled, ''Flash'' in 1968 and opened four dates for the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Gibbons formed ZZ Top in late 1969 and released ''ZZ Top's First Album'' in early 1971. He has also maintained a solo career in recent years, starting with his first album ''Perfectamundo'' (2015). Gibbons possesses a gravelly bass-baritone singing voice and is known for his bluesy, groove based guitar style.
