William Henry Fry
William Henry Fry (August 10, 1813 – December 21, 1864) was an American composer, music critic, and journalist. Fry was the first known person born in the United States to write for a large symphony orchestra, and the first to compose a publicly performed opera. He was also the first music critic for a major American newspaper, and he was the first known person to insist that his fellow countrymen support American-made music. Biography William Henry Fry was born on August 10, 1813, in Philadelphia. His father, William Fry, was a prominent printer and, along with Roberts Vaux and Robert Walsh, ran the '' National Gazette and Literary Register'', a major American newspaper at the time—edited by Robert Walsh from 1821 to 1836. William Fry (Victorian Politician)
Sir William Gordon Fry (12 June 1909 – 29 September 2000) was an Australian politician. He was born in Ballarat to engineer Alfred Gordon Fry and Edith Elizabeth Andrews. He attended state schools at Ballarat before studying at Melbourne University and becoming a schoolteacher. On 19 September 1936 he married Lilian Gwendoline Macrae, with whom he had four sons. From 1940 to 1945 he served in the Australian Imperial Force, commanding the 47th Battalion in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. He attained the rank of lieutenant-colonel and was mentioned in dispatches, and subsequently headed a commission investigating war crimes in the Pacific. On his return he taught at Camperdown State School from 1946 to 1956, and was subsequently headmaster of Cheltenham, Windsor and Cheltenham Heights state schools. William Mayes Fry
Wing Commander William Mayes Fry (14 November 1896 – 4 August 1992) was a World War I Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force fighter ace. He was credited with eleven aerial victories, piloting no fewer than four different types of fighter aircraft. Fry also has the distinction of being one of the few World War I airmen to survive to the 1990s. World War I Fry joined the army and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Somerset Light Infantry on 10 June 1915. Later he trained as a pilot, receiving Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate No. 3003 after flying a Maurice Farman biplane at the Military Flying School, Birmingham, on 24 May 1916, and on 16 June he was appointed a flying officer in the Royal Flying Corps, and transferred to the General List. William Thomas Fry (1789–1843) was a British engraver. He occasionally exhibited his engravings at the Suffolk Street exhibition. Works Fry worked chiefly in stipple. He engraved four portraits for Fisher, Son, & Co.'s ''National Portrait Gallery'': *Princess Charlotte, and the Earl of Liverpool, after Sir T. William Fry (British Army Officer)
Sir William Fry, (8 September 1858 – 30 March 1934) was a British Army officer who served in the Second Boer War and the First world war, and later became Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man. Military career Fry joined the British Army in May 1878, when he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the West Yorkshire Regiment. He served in the Second Anglo-Afghan War 1878–80, was promoted to lieutenant on 7 January 1880, to captain on 20 January 1886, and to major on 27 July 1898. After the outbreak of the Second Boer War in October 1899, he went with the 2nd battalion of his regiment to South Africa.
