William Wordsworth Fisher
Admiral Sir William Wordsworth Fisher (26 March 1875 – 24 June 1937) was a Royal Navy officer who captained a battleship at the Battle of Jutland and became Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet. Arthur Marder wrote that he was "the outstanding admiral of the inter-war period". Naval career Fisher was born at Blatchington in Sussex, the son of historian Herbert William Fisher and his wife Mary Louisa Jackson (1841–1916). He joined the Royal Navy in 1888 and trained in HMS ''Britannia''. As a midshipman he served in , flagship of the Cape of Good Hope and West Africa Squadron, for three years from 1890 to 1893, before joining in the Training Squadron. After examinations and courses, and now a sub-lieutenant, he joined the protected cruiser in the Mediterranean Fleet in January 1896. The ship was a byword for smartness. William Webster Fisher
William Webster Fisher, M.D, (1798 or 1799 – 4 October 1874), was Downing Professor of Medicine at Cambridge University. Fisher, a native of Westmorland, Westmoreland, was born in 1798 or 1799. He studied in the first instance at the University of Montpellier, where he befriended Auguste Comte and took the degree of M.D. in 1825. Two years later he was entered at Trinity College, Cambridge, where his brother, the Rev. John Hutton Fisher, was a fellow and assistant-tutor. He later migrated to Downing College, Cambridge, Downing College, where he graduated M.B. in 1834. Shortly afterwards he succeeded to a fellowship. Elected to the Downing Professorship of Medicine in 1841, Fisher resigned his fellowship in 1844. He, however, continued to hold some college offices. William Arms Fisher (April 27, 1861 – December 18, 1948) was an American composer, music historian and writer. Personal life Fisher was born in San Francisco, California, on April 27, 1861. He received his first lesson in music from John P. Morgan, a leading Western musician. Intended for a business career, he was led to devote himself entirely to music, and with that end in view he left California in 1890 and went to New York City. There he studied under Antonín Dvořák and Horatio Parker at the National Conservatory of Music of America. He was instructor in harmony at the Conservatory of Music for several years, resigning in 1895 to take up teaching in Boston. He was president of both the Music Teachers National Association and the Music Publishers' National Association. He also worked for the music publisher Oliver Ditson Company which was later taken over by the Theodore Presser Company.
