Leicestershire was a county constituency in Leicestershire, represented in the House of Commons. It elected two Members of Parliament (MPs), traditionally called Knights of the Shire, by the bloc vote system of election, to the Parliament of England until 1707, to the Parliament of Great Britain from 1707 until 1800, and then to Parliament of the United Kingdom until 1832. Admiral William Feilding, 1st Earl of Denbigh (c. 15878 April 1643, Cannock) was an English naval officer and courtier. Biography William Feilding was the son of Basil Fielding of Newnham Paddox in Warwickshire (High Sheriff of Warwickshire in 1612) and of Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Walter Aston (1530–1599) and his wife, Elizabeth (née Leveson). Feilding matriculated at Queens' College, Cambridge in 1603. In 1606 Feilding married Susan, daughter of Sir George Villiers and sister of George Villiers, who became the favourite of King James I and was made Duke of Buckingham. With the rise of (the younger) George Villiers, both William and Susan received various offices and dignities. Knighted on 4 March 1607, William Feilding was created Baron and Viscount Feilding in 1620. William Feilding, 3rd Earl of Denbigh, 2nd Earl of Desmond (29 December 1640 – 23 August 1685) was an aristocrat in the Peerage of England. He was the son of George Feilding, 1st Earl of Desmond, and his wife, the former Bridget Stanhope, daughter of Sir Michael Stanhope. Feilding inherited the title of Earl of Denbigh from his paternal uncle Basil Feilding, 2nd Earl of Denbigh, who died without heirs in 1675. He married, firstly, Mary King (died 1669), daughter of Sir Robert King and Frances Folliott, daughter of Henry Folliott, 1st Baron Folliott and Anne Strode, and widow of Sir William Meredyth. Secondly, he married Lady Mary Carey, daughter of Henry Carey, 2nd Earl of Monmouth. He died on 23 August 1685 at age 44. William Feilding (1669–1723)
Hon. William Feilding (1669–1723), of Ashtead, Surrey and Duke Street, Westminster, was an English Whig politician who sat in the English House of Commons from 1705 to 1708 and in the British House of Commons from 1708 to 1723. Feilding was the second son of William Feilding, 3rd Earl of Denbigh and his wife Mary King, daughter of Sir Robert King of Boyle Abbey, county Roscommon. He matriculated at Queen's College, Oxford on 4 May 1686, aged 16. He was Lieutenant of the Yeomen of the Guard from 1704 to 1708. In December 1705, he made an advantageous marriage to Lady Diana Howard, widow of Thomas Howard, MP of Ashtead, Surrey, and daughter of Francis Newport, 1st Earl of Bradford. William Basil Percy Feilding, 7th Earl of Denbigh, 6th Earl of Desmond, GCH, PC (25 March 1796 – 25 June 1865), styled Viscount Feilding between 1799 and 1800, was a British peer and courtier. Background and education Feilding was the eldest son of William Feilding, Viscount Feilding and his wife, Anne Catherine Powys. He was born at Berwick House (his maternal grandparents' family seat) near Shrewsbury, Shropshire, and educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated MA in 1816. In 1799, Feilding's father died and his grandfather also a year later, whereupon Feilding inherited the latter's title. Career From 1830, Lord Denbigh was a Gentleman of the Bedchamber to William IV. In 1833, he was made a GCH, admitted to the Privy Council and transferred to Queen Adelaide's Household, first as her Lord Chamberlain, then as Master of the Horse. General William Henry Adelbert Feilding (6 January 1836 – 25 March 1895) was a British soldier of the Coldstream Guards. Feilding was a son of William Feilding, 7th Earl of Denbigh and his wife Lady Mary Elizabeth Kitty Moreton. He served in the Crimean War and was British commissioner to the French Army during the Franco-Prussian War. He was decorated in the field by General Chanzy with the Legion d'honneur for saving the wounded under fire in a burning hospital. He became a Colonel in the Coldstream Guards and was Inspector-General of the Recruiting HQ from 1891 to 1894. The town of Feilding in New Zealand was named after him. Earl of Denbigh (pronounced 'Denby') is a title in the Peerage of England. It was created in 1622 for William Feilding, 1st Viscount Feilding, a courtier, admiral, adventurer, and brother-in-law of the powerful Duke of Buckingham. The title is named after the Welsh town of Denbigh in the county of Denbighshire. Since the time of the third earl (1640), the Earl of Denbigh has also held the title of Earl of Desmond, in the Peerage of Ireland.
