William Elliott (lieutenant)
William Elliott (active 1774–1810) was a Lieutenant (navy), lieutenant in the Royal Navy and marine painter. Elliott gained some repute from his paintings of the naval actions between 1780 and 1790. He first appears as an exhibitor in 1774 at the Free Society of Artists, with 'A Perspective View of the European Factory at Canton in China,' and 'A View of the Green, &c. at Calcutta in Bengal.' William Elliott (American Politician)
William Elliott (September 3, 1838 – December 7, 1907) was an American attorney and politician, serving as U.S. Representative from South Carolina. Biography Born in Beaufort, South Carolina, Elliott attended Beaufort College and Harvard University. He studied law at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, and was admitted to the bar in Charleston in 1861. Upon the outbreak of the Civil War he entered the Confederate States Army as a lieutenant. He served throughout the war, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. At the close of the war, he returned to Beaufort, where he developed a law practice. Elliott became involved in politics, serving as a member of the State house of representatives in 1866. He served as delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1876. He was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election in 1884 to the Forty-ninth Congress. William Elliott (15 November 1842 – 1891) was an English cricketer. Elliott was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast. He was born at Bulwell, Nottinghamshire. Elliott made his first-class debut for Richard Daft's XI against a United North of England Eleven at the Recreation Ground, Holbeck in 1870. The following season he made two first-class appearances for Nottinghamshire against Gloucestershire at Clifton College, and Surrey at The Oval. He scored a total of 12 runs in his three first-class appearances, as well as taking two wickets. William Elliott (rower)
William Elliott was born at Hay Farm, Northumberland, 28 November 1849 and was the Professional Sculling Champion of England. He stood five feet seven and one half inches in height and untrained he weighed 176 pounds; trained, 167 pounds. Rowing career Elliott began his rowing career in 1875, when he defeated William, Martin, of Blyth, and afterwards J. Hogarth, the champion of the Wear. His third race was with J. Finnegan, who defeated him after a desperate race. In August 1875, he entered the Manchester and Sanford regatta. He rowed in the handicap single-scull race and won the first heat, defeating Cobbett, to whom he conceded five and a half lengths; but in the second series J. Anderson, of Hammersmith, beat him easily. In the final Nicholson and Smith came together, and the former was the winner. William Elliott (writer)
William Elliott (27 April 1788 – 3 February 1863) was a South Carolina writer of nonfiction. Life Born in Beaufort, South Carolina, he entered Harvard at 18 and did well. He returned to South Carolina without completing his studies but received a degree in 1810. During the Nullification Crisis in South Carolina in 1832, he was a senator in the state legislature but resigned upon being instructed by his constituents to vote to nullify the tariff law. He did not believe in the right of nullification despite being unalterably opposed to protectionism. He then devoted himself to the management of his estates and rural sports and occasionally published essays on rural economy, controversial articles on political science and economics, sporting sketches signed "Venator" and "Piscator" and poems, and he delivered many addresses before agricultural societies. William Elliott (30 May 1872 – 12 December 1944) was a Progressive Party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Galt, Ontario and became a farmer. The son of Andrew Elliott and Mary Common, he was educated at Galt Collegiate and the Ontario Agricultural College. Elliott married Eva Croll. William Elliott (1863 – October 29, 1934) was a physician and political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. He represented Wolseley from 1905 to 1908 and Moose Mountain from 1908 to 1912 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Provincial Rights Party member.
