William Moffat Earle (November 10, 1867 – May 30, 1946), nicknamed "The Little Globetrotter",James, p. 1891 was an American Major League Baseball player who mainly played as a catcher for five teams from 1889 to 1894. Moffat was known as one of the best catchers of his time, although he shifted from team to team by contract jumping, threatening to contract jump if he was not happy. He was most noted for his "creepy" nature. He thought of himself as a hypnotist, and was interested in spiritual healing. Earle's Shipbuilding was an engineering company that was based in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England from 1845 to 1932. Earle Brothers The company was started in Hull in 1845 by two brothers, Charles and William Earle. The firm was made up of engineers and focussed on shipbuilding and repair. Its most notable association was with the Wilson Line, for whom the yard produced many ships. Earle's also built vessels for many other British shipping firms, especially those operating on North Sea routes such as the Great Eastern Railway and the Hull & Netherlands Steamship Co. Ltd. In 1871, Earle's was restructured as a joint-stock company and for a short time Sir Edward James Reed served as its chairman and managing director. USS ''Merrimac'' was a sidewheel steamer first used in the Confederate States Navy that was captured and used in the United States Navy during the American Civil War. ''Merrimac'' was purchased in England for the Confederate government in 1862. After a successful career as a blockade runner, she was captured by USS ''Iroquois'' off the coast of Cape Fear River, North Carolina, 24 July 1863. Purchased by the Navy from New York Prize Court 10 March 1864, ''Merrimac'' commissioned at New York 1 May 1864, Acting Master William P. Rogers in command. William Rawlinson Earle (7 April 1702 - 10 August 1774), of Eastcourt House, Crudwell, near Malmesbury, Wiltshire, was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons for 40 years between 1727 and 1768. Earle was the eldest son of Giles Earle and his wife Elizabeth Rawlinson, daughter of Sir William Rawlinson of Hendon House, Middlesex and widow of John Lowther of Lowther, Westmorland. He married, with £20,000, Susannah White, daughter of William White of Somerford, Wiltshire on 4 January 1731. William Earle (MP)
William Earle (1728–1774) was a British office holder and politician who sat in the House of Commons briefly in 1774. Earle was the third son of Rev. Thomas Earle, vicar of Malmesbury and his second wife Grace, and was baptized on 24 April 1728. He married his first wife Katherine in about 1749. Earle was deputy steward of Malmesbury under Henry Fox from September 1750 to September 1762 and under him received a number of official posts, mainly for life. In 1752 he was appointed Inspector of baggage in the port of London, in 1755 Commissary of Musters in South Britain and in April 1761 Steward of Chelsea Hospital. He was appointed receiver of land tax for North Wiltshire in 1761, dismissed in May 1765 and restored in November 1765.
