Sir William Dunn, 1st Baronet, Of Lakenheath
Sir William Dunn, 1st Baronet, (22 September 1833 – 31 March 1912), was a London banker, merchant and philanthropist, Liberal Member of Parliament for Paisley (1891–1906), and from before 1896 until the outbreak of the Second Boer War in 1899 consul general for the Orange Free State in the United Kingdom. Biography Family Dunn's family origins were modest. He was born in Paisley near Glasgow on 22 September 1833 to John Dunn, a local shopkeeper, and Isabella Chalmers. Dunn married in South Africa in 1859 with Sarah Elizabeth Howse (1 May 1830 – 2 February 1919), daughter of James Howse (1796–1852), of Grahamstown, Cape Colony, and Sarah Ann Dold (1803–1881). James Howse emigrated to Algoa Bay, South Africa from Oxfordshire in 1820. He started off as a labourer, but later owned the farm "Leeuwfontein". William Donne (cricketer)
William Stephens Donne (2 April 1875 in Wincanton, Somerset – 24 March 1934 in Castle Cary, Somerset) was an English cricket player, and former president of the Rugby Football Union, and was a member of the cricket team that won a gold medal at the 1900 Summer Olympics. Cricket career Donne was one of the founding members of the Devon and Somerset Wanderers Cricket Club, and part of the team on their first tour in 1894 of the Isle of Wight. He was also one of five players from the Castle Cary Cricket Club who represented Great Britain in cricket at the 1900 Summer Olympics. They won the gold medal in the only match against France, Donne scoring six runs before being run out in the first innings and not batting in the second innings. The Castle Cary Cricket Club marked their 175th anniversary in 2012 with a celebration of the Castle Cary players that played in 1900. There have been three creations of ''baronetcies'' for people with the surname Dunn; all three were in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. The first was settled on William Dunn, of The Retreat in the Parish of Lakenheath in the County of Suffolk on 29 July 1895, after whom the Sir William Dunn Professor of Biochemistry and the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology at Oxford University are named. This creation became extinct upon his death in 1912. A second creation was made on 25 June 1917 for Sir William Henry Dunn, of Clitheroe in the County Palatine of Lancaster, Lord Mayor of London. This creation became extinct upon the death of the second baronet in 1971. William Ellsworth Dunn, or W.E. Dunn, (1861–1925) was the city attorney of Los Angeles, California, and represented various concerns of California capitalist Henry E. Huntington. He was a founder of the Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher law firm. Personal Dunn was born on August 2, 1861, in Douglas, Michigan, or in Saagetuck, Maine, the son of George E. Dunn and Ellen V. Dickinson. He attended Allegan High School in Allegan, Michigan, followed by a year of University-preparatory school, preparatory school and then a year in the law department of the University of Michigan. William Arthur Dunn (11 March 1875 – 30 October 1947) was a prominent Methodist clergyman in the colony and State of South Australia. He was president of the Methodist Conference in 1929 and president of Prince Alfred College 1930. History William was born at Charleston, South Australia, the younger son of Charles Dunn Jr. JP (1841–1921) by his second wife Annie, née Kelly, (c. 1846–1881) who married on 2 April 1874.
