William Dunlop (ecclesiastical Historian)
William Dunlop, the younger (1692–1720) was a British professor of church history, at the University of Edinburgh. Life He was born at Glasgow in 1692, the youngest son of William Dunlop, the elder, and Sarah Carstares. His brother, Alexander Dunlop, was also a scholar. The early death of his father threw on his mother the chief charge of his education. After his philosophical course at Edinburgh he studied both law and divinity under the superintendence of Principal Carstares, who was married to his mother's sister. He was licensed in 1714 by the presbytery of Edinburgh, and soon after he was appointed by George I professor of divinity and church history in the university there. For the few years of his life thereafter, he continued to discharge the duties of his chair, and likewise to preach as occasion presented itself in the Edinburgh churches. William Dunlop (motorcycle Racer)
William Dunlop (23 July 1985 – 7 July 2018) was a professional motorcycle racer from Northern Ireland who died as a result of a racing incident. Part of a motorcycle racing dynasty, William was the elder brother of Michael Dunlop, Michael; both were sons of the late Robert Dunlop, and nephews of the late Joey Dunlop. William Dunlop (c.1654 – 1700) was a Covenanter, adventurer, and Principal of the University of Glasgow from 1690 to 1700. An advocate for the use of enslaved labour in America, according to Howe (1859, 653), William Dunlop was the first Presbyterian minister in South Carolina. Biography William Dunlop was the eldest son of Rev Alexander Dunlop (c.1620-c.1667), a Church of Scotland minister at Paisley, Scotland, and his wife, Elizabeth Mure (c.1620-c.1667), daughter of William Mure of Glanderston. William James Dunlop
William James Dunlop (June 24, 1881 – February 2, 1961) was an Ontario teacher and political figure. He represented Eglinton in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1951 to 1961 as a Progressive Conservative member. Background He was born in Durham, Ontario, the son of Reverend James Cochrane Dunlop, and later moved to Stayner with his family. He was educated in local schools and also studied in Collingwood, in Clinton, at the University of Toronto and Queen's University. He taught school for a number of years and was principal for schools in Tavistock and Peterborough. He became a member of the faculty of Education at the University of Toronto and also managed a magazine for teachers and the ''Canadian Historical Review''. William Dunlop (19 November 1792 – 29 June 1848) also known as Tiger Dunlop, was an army officer, surgeon, Canada Company official, author, justice of the peace, militia officer, politician, and office holder. He is notable for his contributions to the War of 1812 in Canada and his work in the Canada Company, helping to develop and populate a large part of Southern Ontario (the Huron Tract). William Dunlop (16 August 1869 – 25 May 1960) was a Scottish footballer who played in the English Football League for Sunderland and in the Scottish League for Rangers. He played as a half-back, either at wing half or in the centre. Career Dunlop was born in Annbank, South Ayrshire, and played for his hometown club (taking part in a trial for the Scotland national team in 1890) before coming to England to sign for Sunderland at the start of 1893. He was the uncle (though only two years older) of his new club's star forward Jimmy Miller, while another former Annbank player, defender Robert Smellie, was also in the Sunderland side (he and Dunlop were teammates in the team's run to the quarter-finals of the 1891–92 Scottish Cup).
