Bill Dickey
William Malcolm Dickey (June 6, 1907 – November 12, 1993) was an American professional baseball catcher and manager. He played in Major League Baseball with the New York Yankees for 19 seasons. Dickey managed the Yankees as a player-manager in 1946 in his last season as a player. Dickey played with the Yankees from 1928 through 1943. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, Dickey returned to the Yankees in 1946 as a player and manager. He retired after the 1946 season, but returned in 1949 as a coach, where he taught Yogi Berra the finer points of catching. During Dickey's playing career, the Yankees went to the World Series nine times, winning eight championships. He was named to 11 All-Star Games. As a manager and coach, he led the Yankees to another six World Series titles. Dickey was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1954. Early life Dickey was born in Bastrop, Louisiana, on June 6, 1907.

William Dickey (poet)
William Hobart Dickey (December 15, 1928 – May 3, 1994) was an American poet and professor of English and creative writing at San Francisco State University. He wrote 15 books of poetry over a career that lasted over 30 years. Early life and education Dickey was born in 1928 in Bellingham, Washington and was raised in Washington and Oregon. He attended Reed College, graduating in 1951. At Reed, he wrote a novel for his bachelor's thesis and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa Society. He was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and studied at Harvard University (Master of Arts, 1955) and the University of Iowa (Master of Fine Arts, 1956). As a Fulbright scholar, he studied at Jesus College at the University of Oxford from 1959 to 1960. Dickey was a student of John Berryman at the Iowa Writers' Workshop. William Bruce Dickey (February 13, 1842 – November 2, 1902) was an American businessman and politician. Dickey was born in Smithfield, Madison County, New York. He moved to Minnesota in 1859 and settled in Zumbrota, Goodhue County, Minnesota with his wife and family. Dickey was involved with the mercantile business. Dickey served in the 8th Minnesota Infantry Regiment The 8th Minnesota Infantry Regiment was a United States Volunteers, Minnesota USV infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Indian Wars and the American Civil War.
