William Crane (politician)
William Crane (February 15, 1785 – March 31, 1853) was a merchant, judge and long-term elected provincial legislator in New Brunswick, Canada, serving from 1824–1842.He also was a member of the Legislative Council of New Brunswick from 1843–1850. Early life and education He was born in Horton Township, Nova Scotia, the son of Jonathan Crane and Rebecca Allison. He was educated there. Career Crane later moved to Westmorland County, New Brunswick, where he became a merchant in Sackville. In 1819, Crane went into business with his cousin Charles Frederick Allison. The firm sold goods and exported local products to Great Britain, Nova Scotia and the United States. Crane also served as justice of the peace, justice of the quorum and judge for the Inferior Court of Common Pleas for the county. William Howe Crane
William Howe Crane (1854–1926) was an American lawyer. Born to Reverend Jonathan Townley Crane and Mary Helen Peck Crane, he was the fourth-oldest of nine surviving children—Mary Helen, George Peck, Jonathan Townley, William Howe, Agnes Elizabeth, Edmund Byran, Wilbur Fiske, Luther and Stephen. In 1880 he graduated from Albany Law School, after which he established a practice in Port Jervis, New York. Crane was a prominent member of the community; he served as district clerk of the board of education and treasurer of the town's waterworks. One year he served as special judge for Orange County, which earned him the nickname "Judge" Crane.Wertheim (1997), p. 76 He was also the author of one book, ''A Scientific Currency'' (1910). His youngest brother was the author Stephen Crane (1871–1900), who was a frequent visitor to his home in Port Jervis. William Crane (died 1545) was Master of the Children of the Chapel Royal The Master of the Children of the Chapel Royal was the choirmaster of the Chapel Royal of England. They were responsible for the musical direction of the choir, which consisted of the Gentlemen of the Chapel and Children of the Chapel. In some per ... from 1523 to 1545, under Henry VIII. The King bestowed several favourable appointments on Crane throughout his life by which he became a wealthy man, apparently through involvement in maritime trade. In 1509, already having been a Gentleman of the Chapel since about 1506, he was appointed Water-Bailiff of Dartmouth. In 1514 he was appointed Comptroller of the Petty Customs in the Port of London. In 1535 he was made Water-Bailiff of Lynn. Crane married a woman named Margaret and they are known to have had a daughter. He fell ill in June 1545 and died shortly afterwards.
