William Burden (tenor)
William Burden is an American opera singer (tenor). Since his professional debut at the San Francisco Opera in 1992, he has performed in lead roles in North America and Europe. Education Burden was born in Miami. As an undergraduate he studied at Middlebury College and then entered the Indiana University School of Music where he received his master's degree in Vocal Performance working with Margaret Harshaw. Burden participated in a number of summer programs, the Merola Program of the San Francisco Opera, the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice program, and the Wolf Trap Young Artists’ Program. Professional career In 1992 Burden was called to the San Francisco Opera to sing Count Lerma in ''Don Carlo'' and Janek in ''The Makropoulos Case''. William Fletcher Burden (March 14, 1830 – December 7, 1867) was an industrialist born in Troy, New York. Early life William F. Burden was born March 14, 1830, in Troy, New York, the third son of Henry Burden (1791–1871) and Helen (née McOuat) Burden (1802–1860). His siblings included James Abercrombie Burden Sr. (the father of James A. Burden Jr. and Arthur Scott Burden), Margaret Elizabeth Burden, Helen Burden (who married Gen. William Douglas Burden
William Douglas Burden (September 24, 1898 – November 14, 1978), was an American naturalist, filmmaker, and author who co-founded Marineland in Florida. Early life Burden was born on September 24, 1898, in Troy, New York, but grew up in Manhattan, where the family lived at 7 East 91st Street in a home designed by Warren & Wetmore. He was the second son of James Abercrombie Burden Jr. (1871–1932) and Florence Adele Sloane (1873–1960). His older brother was James Abercrombie Burden III, and his younger sister was Florence "Sheila" Burden (the wife of Blake Leigh Lawrence, a descendant of the Chanler, Winthrop, and Astor families). After his father's death in 1932, his mother remarried in 1936 to Richard M. Tobin, a banker who had been the American Minister to the Netherlands under President Calvin Coolidge.
