William Buck (baseball)
William F. Henley Buck was an American professional baseball player and umpire. Early life Buck was the son of John M. and Mary B. and had a sister. His university preparation was at St. Timothy's Hall in Catonsville, Maryland, and his undergrad study was at Princeton University, where he graduated in 1870. He then did post-graduate study in medicine for two years at the University of Maryland. He was a Presbyterian and did not marry. At Princeton He was a member of the Princeton University's Nassau Baseball Club first nine (starting lineup) in the 1866–67 season as a shortstop. The team was also known as the Pickwick Nine, playing under that name because the faculty refused to allow them to leave campus for some games. In 1867–68 he played at third base, left field, and second base. The team became known as the Princeton University Baseball Club in 1868–69. William Benson Buck (April 20, 1934 – August 26, 1970) was an American writer who produced novelized translations into English of the Sanskrit epic poems ''Mahabharata'' and ''Ramayana''. A translation of '' Harivamsa'' was unfinished at his death. Biography Buck was born in Washington, D.C., one of six children of U.S. Congressman Frank H. Buck. He had a sister and four half-siblings. He was a member of the wealthy Buck family of Marin County, California. His great-grandfather was Leonard W. Buck, a politician and businessman. His father died in Washington, D.C. in 1942 while still in office. His mother, Eva Benson Buck, was born to Swedish parents and was Buck's second wife. Bill Buck is an American environmentalist, writer, and multimedia producer. In 1987, he was awarded the Presidential Environmental Youth Award by President Ronald Reagan for his efforts to inform the public about a toxic waste dump in his local Casmalia, California. ''Taking a Stand Against Environmental Pollution'' profiled Buck's achievements as a youth activist during this time, including his participation in a number of controversial protests with the direct action organization Greenpeace. In 1989, as public pressure continued to build, the dump was permanently shut down. The site was later administered by the Environmental Protection Agency and remains on the list of Superfund sites in California. Buck began writing about environmental issues for '' The New York Times'' Special Feature Syndicate and national publications like ''"E" Magazine'', including in-depth interviews with David R. William Dalton Buck (born 30 September 1946) is a former English first-class cricketer. Buck was born in the Southampton suburb of Portswood in September 1946. He was educated at Clayesmore School and later St Luke's Campus, St Luke's College. Buck represented both Hampshire County Cricket Club, Hampshire and Somerset County Cricket Club, Somerset in 1969. He made his first-class cricket, first-class debut, playing for Somerset in June 1969, against the touring West Indies cricket team, West Indians at County Ground, Taunton, Taunton. In this match, he took his only wickets in first-class cricket, dismissing Test cricketers Roy Fredericks and Joey Carew. Two months later, he represented Hampshire against the touring New Zealand national cricket team, New Zealanders at County Ground, Southampton, Southampton.
