William Bryant (footballer, Born 1874)
William Bryant (born 1874) was an English-born association football, footballer who played as an outside forward in The Football League in the 1890s and 1900s. He began his Football League career with Rotherham Town F.C. (1878), Rotherham Town in the 1894–95 Football League, 1894–95 season. Bryant subsequently moved to Manchester United F.C., Manchester United, and made his debut for them on 1 September 1896 against Gainsborough Trinity. He went on to make 123 appearances for United, scoring 33 goals. Bryant moved to Blackburn Rovers F.C., Blackburn Rovers after his spell at United, and made his league debut for Rovers in the 1900–01 Football League, 1900–01 season, going on to play 25 league games for them over the next two seasons. Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. Rotherham () is a large minster and market town in South Yorkshire, England. The town takes its name from the River Rother which then merges with the River Don. The River Don then flows through the town centre. It is the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham. 1894–95 Football League
The 1894– 95 season was the seventh season of The Football League. During the first five seasons of the league the re-election process had concerned the clubs which finished in the bottom four of the league, but as of the 1894–95 season the re-election requirement was reduced to the last three clubs in Division Two. However, as Lincoln City (fourth from last) and Walsall Town Swifts (third from last) both finished with 20 points, they were both subjected to the re-election process, and Walsall eventually resigned from the league. After this, and until the 1976–77 season, goal average (explained below) was used to determine a club's exact position and there were no more anomalies in the re-election processes.
