William Brereton, 1st Baron Brereton
William Brereton, 1st Baron Brereton (1550 – 1 October 1631) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1597 and 1622. He was created a peer in the Peerage of Ireland in 1624 as Baron Brereton. Biography Brereton was the son of Sir William Brereton of Brereton, Cheshire and was baptised on 6 February 1550. He was about nine when his father died in 1559 and he succeeded to the extensive family estates. He was educated at Oxford University and was awarded a BA in 1568. He was admitted at Lincoln's Inn in 1569. From 1573, he was JP for Cheshire and was High Sheriff of Cheshire from 1581 to 1582. In 1586, he built a mansion at Brereton (Brereton Hall) which was similar to Rocksavage, the house of his father-in-law Sir John Savage. He was knighted in 1588. Colonel Sir Gilbert Gerard (died January 1646) was a Royalist officer during the English Civil War. Early life Gilbert and Ratcliffe were twin sons of Ratcliffe Gerard, and Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Sir Charles Somerset. 1642: The first campaign and Edgehill Gerard was the colonel of a Royalist regiment of foot (his twin brother, Ratcliffe, was his lieutenant-colonel) that was already in the field before the first major pitched battle took place. Gerard's Regiment joined two other Lancashire Royalist regiments under the command of Sir Charles Gerard's (his nephew) and Lord Molyneux in besieged Manchester, but they failed to take the city before they left for the general rendezvous with the Royalist army which was assembling in Shropshire before advancing towards London. William Booth (MP)
William Booth (10 April 182920 August 1912) was an English Methodist preacher who, along with his wife, Catherine Booth, Catherine, founded the Salvation Army and became its first "General of The Salvation Army, General" (1878–1912). The Christian movement with a quasi-military structure and government founded in 1865 has spread from London to many parts of the world and is known for being one of the largest distributors of humanitarian aid. Early life William Booth was born in Sneinton, Nottingham, the second son of five children born to Samuel Booth and his second wife, Mary Moss. His birthplace is now a museum. Booth's father was relatively wealthy but, during William's childhood, the family descended into poverty. Sir Richard Grosvenor, 1st Baronet (9 January 1585 – 14 September 1645) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1621 and 1629. He is an ancestor of the modern day Dukes of Westminster. Grosvenor was born at Eaton Hall, Cheshire, reportedly the only surviving male child of 17 children. His father was Richard Grosvenor of Eaton, and his mother was Christian, the daughter of Sir Richard Brooke of Norton Priory, Cheshire. His early education was by John Bruen, a local puritan and at the age of 13 he went to The Queen's College, Oxford. He matriculated in 1599 and graduated BA on 30 June 1602. Political career In 1602 Grosvenor was High Sheriff of Cheshire. He was knighted by James I in Vale Royal on 24 August 1617. In 1621, he was elected Member of Parliament for Cheshire. Sir Roger Aston (died 23 May 1612) of Cranford, Middlesex, was an English courtier and favourite of James VI of Scotland. Biography Aston was the illegitimate son of Thomas Aston (died 1553), Thomas Aston (died 1553). Scottish sources spell his name variously as "Aschetone", "Aschetoun", or "Aschingtoun". John Done
John Done (c. 1747 – October 9, 1831) was a justice of the Maryland Court of Appeals from 1812 to 1814. Born in Somerset County, Maryland to John Done (d. 1772) and Sarah Waters Done (d. 1781), Done was admitted to the practice of law before the Somerset County court and the Worcester County court 1769. He served as sheriff of Worcester County from 1773 to 1775. During the American Revolutionary War he was commissioned as a colonel in the Princess Anne Battalion in 1781, and in 1788 served on the Constitution Ratification Convention for Worcester County. When the town of Princess Anne, Maryland was platted, Done bought one of the allotted properties and built a large house there some time before the Revolutionary War. Later, a local named Zadok Long rented the property from Done and conducted it as a tavern, eventually buying the property on June 17, 1797, and converting it into the Washington Hotel, a local landmark frequented by famous residents of the state.
