William Andrus
William Andrus (September 27, 1806 – March 10, 1884) was an American coach driver, farmer, and politician from New York. Life Andrus was born on September 27, 1806, in Malone, New York, the son of Cone Andrus and Melinda House. His brothers were assemblymen Lucius C. Andrus and Albert Andrus. Andrus went to school in Danbury, Connecticut. After finishing school, he returned to Malone and initially worked as a clerk in Jonathan Stearns' store. He soon left the job and worked for Jonathan Thompson, driving a mail coach between Plattsburgh and Ogdensburg until 1832. In 1842, he became a proprietor of that mail route, which he maintained until it was superseded by the railroad in 1851. When the Bank of Malone was founded in 1851, he became one of its directors, a position he was annually re-elected to. He was the only surviving member of the original board when he died. Malone, New York
Malone ( moh, Tekanatà:ronhwe) is a town in Franklin County, New York, United States. The population was 14,545 at the 2010 census. The town contains a village also named Malone. The town is an interior town located in the north-central part of the county. History The town was formed from part of the town of Chateaugay in 1805. The town was originally named "Harison", after Richard Harison, who had purchased the land and founded the town. The name was changed in 1808 to "Ezraville", after Ezra L'Hommedieu, and in 1812 to "Malone". During the War of 1812, the village was sacked by British troops making incursions from what would become Canada. Former Governor Mario Cuomo instituted financial measures to increase economic stability to the county by bringing in many prisons (state and federal). Chateaugay (town), New York
Chateaugay is a town in Franklin County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 2,155. The name is derived from a location in France, which was applied to a local land grant. Within the town is a village also named Chateaugay. The town is located in the northeastern corner of the county. History The first settlement took place in 1796. The town was formed in 1799 before Franklin County was established, from parts of the towns of Champlain and Plattsburgh. By 1802, Chateaugay comprised most of Franklin County. Subsequently, its territory was reduced to form other towns. The town of Malone was set off from Chateaugay in 1805. When Franklin County was established from Clinton County, part of Chateaugay remained in Clinton County. The town of St. Armand was taken off in 1822 and placed in Essex County.
