William And Susan Savage House
William and Susan Savage House, also known as Savage-Combs House, is a historic home located near Leggett, Edgecombe County, North Carolina. It was built about 1815, and is a -story, five-bay, double pile, Federal style frame dwelling. It has a brick-pier foundation, a side-gable roof, and gable-end exterior chimneys. The house was restored in the 1990s. Legett is a town in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Rocky Mount, North Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 37 in the 2020 Census. History Cedar Lane, Mount Prospect, and William and Susan Savage House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography Leggett is located at (35.992112, -77.579922). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 77 people, 29 households, and 22 families residing in the town. The population density was 110.8 people per square mile (42.5/km2). Edgecombe County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 48,900. Its county seat is Tarboro. Edgecombe County is part of the Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The county was formed in 1741 from Bertie County. It was named for Richard Edgcumbe, a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1701 to 1742 and a lord of the treasury, who became 1st Baron Richard Edgecombe in 1742. In 1746 part of Edgecombe County became Granville County; in 1758 another portion became Halifax County; and in 1777 yet another part became Nash County. In 1855 the formation of Wilson County from parts of Edgecombe County, Johnston County, Nash County, and Wayne County reduced Edgecombe to its present size, with a minor boundary adjustments.
