William Allen High School
William Allen High School is one of two large, urban public high schools of the Allentown School District in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The school provides public education for grades 9 through 12. William Allen High School is located at 106 North 17th Street, Allentown. It serves students from the center city and west side sections of Allentown. The city's other public high school, Dieruff High School, serves students from Allentown's eastern and southern sections. Until Dieruff's opening in 1959, William Allen High School was known as Allentown High School. As of the 2020-21 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,650 students, according to National Center for Education Statistics data. High school students may choose to attend Lehigh Career and Technical Institute for vocational training in the trades. Parkland High School is a large public high school in South Whitehall Township, near Allentown, Pennsylvania. The school serves students in grades 9–12 and is the only high school for the Parkland School District. As of the 2020-21 school year, the school had an enrollment of 3,187 students, according to National Center for Education Statistics data. William Allen (loyalist)
William Allen (August 5, 1704 – September 6, 1780) was a wealthy merchant, attorney and chief justice of the Province of Pennsylvania, and mayor of Philadelphia during the colonial period. At the time of the American Revolution, Allen was one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania Route 222
Pennsylvania Route 222 (PA 222) is a -long state highway located in Allentown and its immediate suburbs in the Lehigh Valley region in eastern Pennsylvania. Most of the route runs along Hamilton Boulevard. In Center City Allentown, the route is aligned along West Hamilton, West Linden, and West Walnut Streets. The southern terminus of the route is at Interstate 78 (I-78) and PA 309 in Dorneyville, where the roadway changes designation from PA 222 to U.S. Route 222 (US 222). H. Leh & Co. (or simply Leh's) was a department store located at 626 West Hamilton Street in Allentown, Pennsylvania. It was of what was an outside mall structure called the Hamilton Mall. Like many other downtown department stores of the time, however, it ultimately closed as suburban shopping malls' increased in popularity. History Born in Allentown in 1830, on April 25, 1850, Henry Leh, hung a sign at 626 Hamilton Street in Allentown. He would sell ready-to-wear clothes to the 4,000 citizens of Allentown, something that was unheard of in that part of the state.
