William Alex Stolt
William Alex Stolt (July 5, 1900 – February 28, 2001) served as mayor of Anchorage, Alaska from 1941 to 1944. Biography William Alex Stolt was born to Finnish parents in Boston, Massachusetts on July 5, 1900. He spent the first ten years of his life in Finland, moving back to the United States after the death of his father, and his mother's remarriage to a man in Seattle. In 1913, the family moved to Juneau, and then Anchorage in 1917. He attended Anchorage High School, graduating in 1920. He studied electrical engineering at Washington State College, and in 1929 married Lily, another student from Anchorage. Stolt worked as an electrician, operating Bill's Electric Shop & Supply in Anchorage. In 1938, he filed for a Homestead Act claim on land near Otter Lake that was later incorporated into Fort Richardson. Ray Wolfe (September 23, 1905 – October 5, 1977) was Mayor of Anchorage, Alaska from 1944 to 1945. Biography Ray G. Wolfe was born September 23, 1905, in West Liberty, Iowa. He moved to Alaska in January 1927 to work for his uncle in a sheet metal shop at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and C Street. George Vaara
George Vaara (May 26, 1899 – July 26, 1976) was mayor of Anchorage, Alaska from 1940 to 1941. Biography George Vaara was born May 26, 1899, in Ada, Minnesota. He moved to Anchorage in 1923 and worked as a clerk in a Piggly Wiggly grocery store. In the 1930s, he opened a notions store called ''Vaara Varieties''. He was elected president of the Anchorage School Board in 1939. Vaara was elected mayor in 1940 in the midst of a housing shortage brought on by the arrival of military personnel preceding the construction of Fort Richardson. He served a single term. Vaara built a Pepsi-Cola plant on Fifth Avenue in 1943, selling it fifteen years later. In 1958, Vaara made a bid for nomination as the Republican candidate for governor of the new state of Alaska. He withdrew several days later, citing a "heated controversy" between factions of the party. Vaara moved to Seattle, Washington in 1960. Bootleggers Cove
Bootleggers Cove (alternately called "Bootlegger Cove", "Bootleggers' Cove", and "Bootlegger's Cove") is an area of Anchorage, Alaska, just west of Downtown Anchorage and north of the South Addition. Its exact boundaries are controversial. It is served by Inlet View Elementary School, Romig Junior High and West Anchorage High School. Its scenic features include Elderberry Park, the Oscar Anderson House, the Westchester Lagoon, and access to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and the Lainie Fleischer Bike Trail. The Dimond Center is a regional shopping mall in Anchorage, Alaska, United States, located on the southwest corner of East Dimond Boulevard and the Old Seward Highway in south Anchorage. This is the largest enclosed mall in the state of Alaska, though the open-air Tikahtnu Commons in NE Anchorage has a greater GLA. The mall is anchored by Best Buy, Dave & Buster's and a 9-screen Regal Cinemas theater.
