Willem Jan Van Dedem
Willem Jan, Baron van Dedem tot de Rollecate (18 March 1776 – 21 November 1851) was a Dutch lawyer, landowner and taxation officer who was responsible for the peat excavation in south-east Drenthe and north-east Overijssel. The and town of Dedemsvaart are named after van Dedem. Biography Van Dedem was born on 18 March 1776 in Zwolle as a member of the family. He studied law, and began his career as a lawyer in Zwolle. Gerrit Willem van Marle, his father-in-law, had developed a plan in 1791 to excavate the peat in south-east Drenthe and north-east Overijssel by digging a canal from Hasselt to Gramsbergen. In 1809, van Dedem received permission from King Louis Bonaparte to dig the canal which became known as (Dedem's canal). The construction of the canal started in July 1809, and by 1811, it had reached Balkbrug where the raised bog was located. The same year, the town of Dedemsvaart was established. Zwolle
Zwolle () is a city and municipality in the Northeastern Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of Overijssel and the province's second-largest municipality after Enschede with a population of 130,592 as of 1 December 2021. Zwolle is on the border with Gelderland, which follows the river IJssel, and is located about 50 km north east of Utrecht and 85 km south west of Groningen. The current Mayor of Zwolle is Lorenzo Brands. History Archaeological findings indicate that the area surrounding Zwolle has been inhabited for a long time. Vollenhove
Vollenhove is a city in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland, southwest of Steenwijk. Until the Noordoostpolder was drained, it was located on the coast of the Zuiderzee. Vollenhove received city rights in 1354. Later it was the main city in this region, that was formerly called Land van Vollenhove. Vollenhove was the summer residence of the bishop of Utrecht, the ruler of these parts. He lived in the castle Toutenburg, of which only some small ruins are left now. To be near their lord, quite some nobility moved to Vollenhove. They built their estates (Dutch: havezates) in the town, which was unique. Therefore, Vollenhove was called the city of palaces. Provincial road N377 is a Dutch provincial road between Hasselt, in the province of Overijssel, and Coevorden, in the province of Drenthe. Parts of the road are expressway, mainly in between the A28 and Slagharen. The road consists of 1x2 driving lanes, with an exception of 2x2 lanes in Nieuwleusen and Balkbrug. Den Hulst, spelled at times ''De Hulst'' and traditionally pronounced ''Nulst'' locally is a historical Netherlands, Dutch hamlet (place), hamlet which was incorporated into the village and municipality of Nieuwleusen (today in the municipality of Dalfsen). The northern part of Nieuwleusen is known as Den Hulst to this day. Location Den Hulst is located in the central north of the Provinces of the Netherlands, province of Overijssel.
