Will S. Green
William Semple Green (December 26, 1832, Kentucky – July 2, 1905) was a California pioneer, a steamboat captain, mail carrier, surveyor, newspaper publisher, writer, legislator, United States Surveyor General for California, California State Treasurer, and irrigationist. Private life He came to California during the California gold rush, arriving in San Francisco via the Panama Canal at the age of 17 on October 10, 1849, although he never tried his hand at gold mining. His uncle, C.D. Semple, purchased of land from John Bidwell in then-Colusi County (now Colusa County). On July 1, 1850, Green piloted a steamboat up the Sacramento River, taking his uncle and cousin to their land, where they founded the town of Colusa. Over the next several years, Green held a number of different jobs, such as hotel keeper, joint founder of a bakery, selling fresh vegetables and writing magazine articles. Truman Reeves
Truman Reeves (August 17, 1840 – March 8, 1924) was California State Treasurer from 1899 to 1907. He also was a member of the California State Assembly from 1883 to 1887 and treasurer of San Bernardino County (1890–98). He was a Republican. Biography Reeves was born in Chardon, Ohio. He became a watchmaker's apprentice at age 18, and enlisted in the Union Army in 1861. He was promoted from private to lieutenant, and was wounded three times—the last at the Battle of Cold Harbor in 1864, where he lost his left arm. After the war, he was postmaster of Orwell, Ohio until 1868, and was then elected recorder of Ashtabula County, Ohio. In 1867 he married Marion E. McConkey (1845–1930), with whom he raised two children. They moved to San Bernardino, California in 1875, where Reeves worked as a watchmaker and fruit grower. Colusa County Courthouse
The Colusa County Courthouse, in Colusa, California was erected in 1861. This Greek Revival style building is the oldest remaining courthouse in the Sacramento Valley. The "Southern" style reflects the county's heritage and states' rights sympathies during the American Civil War, largely due to the influence of the local newspaper editor Will S. Green. In its early years, the courthouse also served as a center for cultural, social, and religious activities. The courthouse is California Historical Landmark #890, a designation it received in 1976. The courthouse, constructed of brick and later covered in plaster, cost $21,000 to build. A golden bear statue stands above the front door, atop four 30-foot columns. East Park Dam
East Park Dam is an agricultural irrigation dam and reservoir built by the United States Bureau of Reclamation, on Little Stony Creek, about southwest of Orland, California on the northern end of the California Central Valley. The dam was completed in 1910. Its main structure is a curved, thick-arch concrete gravity dam, high, with two sluice gates. The control house is in the shape of a pagoda, and the spillway, about south of the dam on the western side of the reservoir, features an eccentric set of curved labyrinth-spillway fins. The Sacramento Valley Development Association was a quasi-public entity of colony land developers founded in 1900 to advance the area's political and commercial interests as well as market its agricultural products. The organization, headquartered in Sacramento, was founded by 6 counties (Sacramento, Colusa, Yuba, Yolo, Sutter and Glenn) but came to comprise representatives from 6 more ( Solano, Butte, Shasta, Placer, El Dorado and Tehama), each selected by their respective county supervisor.
