William Alexander Mackinnon (Dunwich MP)
William Alexander Mackinnon DL JP FRS (2 August 1789 – 30 April 1870) was a British politician and a colonisation commissioner for South Australia. Early life He was born in Broadstairs, Kent in 1789 and educated at St John's College, Cambridge. He was the eldest son of William Mackinnon of Antigua and Harriet (née Frye) Mackinnon, a daughter of Francis Frye of Antigua. This made him brother of Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Mackinnon and brother-in-law of John Molesworth. He was a beneficiary of slavery in the British West Indies. He succeeded in 1809 as the 33rd Chief of the Clan Mackinnon. Career A Whig, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Dunwich from 1819 to 1820, for Lymington from 1831 to 1832 and from 1835 to 1852, and for Rye from 1853 to 1865. He was a signatory of the third (of four) annual report of the Colonisation Commissioners of South Australia. William Alexander Mackinnon (1813 – 14 September 1903) was elected the Whig MP for Rye on 10 July 1852 but the result was declared void as a result of "treating". There was a question of £220 left behind a sofa cushion at the Red Lion to pay for a dinner. At the resulting bye-election the seat was taken by his father. At the next election he was elected MP for Lymington which he held until 1868 but he never spoke in parliament. He was the 34th Chief of the Clan Mackinnon."Deaths." Lieutenant General Sir William Alexander Mackinnon (27 June 1830 – 28 October 1897) was Director-General of the British Army Medical Service (1889–1896). Mackinnon was born in Strath, Isle of Skye, Scotland. He studied medicine at the University of Glasgow and University of Edinburgh, graduating from Edinburgh in 1851 and receiving an FRCS qualification in 1873. In 1853, he enlisted to the 42nd Regiment of Foot as assistant-surgeon and took part in the Crimean War in Alma, Balaklava and Sevastopol, as well as in the New Zealand Maori war (1863–66). Billy MacKinnon
William Muir MacKinnon (18 January 1852 – 24 May 1942) was a Scottish footballer who played for Queen's Park and the Scotland national team in the 1870s. With Queen's Park, MacKinnon won the first three Scottish Cup competitions in 1874, 1875 and 1876 (being no relation of teammate Angus MacKinnon), as well as the first Glasgow Merchants Charity Cup in 1877. Vermont Catamounts Men's Ice Hockey
The Vermont Catamounts men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (NCAA), Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of Vermont. The Catamounts are a member of Hockey East, joining in 2005 after competing in ECAC Hockey from 1974 to 2005. They play home games at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vermont. Vermont has appeared in the NCAA Men's Hockey Championship six times since making the move to Division I in 1974–75, including trips to the Frozen Four in 1996 and 2009. Prior to moving to Division I, UVM competed in Eastern College Athletic Conference, ECAC Division II, where it won back-to-back ECAC Division II titles in 1972-73 and 1973–74. Ice hockey at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics was held at Kristins Hall in Lillehammer, Norway from 12 to 21 February. The difference between the Youth Olympic program for ice hockey and the Winter Olympics was the addition of a skill challenge for each gender. Medal summary Medal table Events Qualification system There were ten teams in total (five per gender), with 17 players on each team. Participating nations were able to select whether they wished to participate in either the men's or women's ice hockey tournament according to the running order based on a joint under-18 world ranking established after the Men's and Women's U18 World Championships in 2015. Sir William Mackinnon, 1st Baronet, (13 March 1823 – 22 June 1893) was a Scottish ship-owner and businessman who built up substantial commercial interests in India and East Africa. He established the British-India Steam Navigation Company and the Imperial British East Africa Company. Biography Early life He was born in Campbeltown, Argyll, and after starting in the grocery trade there, went to Glasgow and worked for a merchant who had Asian trading interests. Career Mackinnon went to India in 1847 and joined an old schoolfriend, Robert Mackenzie (trader), Robert Mackenzie, in the coasting trade, carrying merchandise from port to port around the Bay of Bengal.
