The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders,'' which aired in 2008 (in order of first appearance). All characters were introduced by executive producer Diederick Santer, who introduced four characters in January: Mr. Lister ( Nick Wilton), a new market inspector; Christian Clarke (John Partridge), the brother of Jane Beale ( Laurie Brett); and two members of the Branning family, Selina ( Daisy Beaumont) and Penny ( Mia McKenna-Bruce). In March, he introduced Jalil Iqbal ( Jan Uddin), a new love interest for Shabnam Masood ( Zahra Ahmadi).
