Wilhelm Aarstad
Wilhelm Aarstad (15 January 1854 – May 1933) was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Left Party. He was born at Aarstad in Egersund as a son of farmers. He was a first cousin of Søren Tobias Årstad, and moved to Stavanger to be a merchant like Søren's side of the family. He was elected to Stavanger city council, and in 1909 to the Parliament of Norway as a deputy representative. He was the running mate of Jonas Schanche Kielland Jonas Schanche Kielland (11 July 1791 – 3 July 1852) was a Norwegian consul and politician, particularly associated with Stavanger. Egersund
Egersund is a town in Eigersund municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The town is located along the southwestern coast of Norway, about south of the city of Stavanger. The town is situated along a strait which separates the mainland from the island of Eigerøya. From 1838 until 1964, the town was also an independent municipality. The town has a population (2019) of 11,433 and a population density of . Egersund has one of the best natural harbours in Norway, and it used to be the largest harbour in Norway when measured in quantity of fish brought in each year (surpassed by Ålesund in 2006). The Free-minded Liberal Party ( no, Frisinnede Venstre) was a political party in Norway founded in 1909 by the conservative-liberal faction of the Liberal Party. The party cooperated closely with the Conservative Party and participated in several short-lived governments, including two headed by Free-minded Prime Ministers. In the 1930s the party changed its name to the Free-minded People's Party ( no, Frisinnede Folkeparti) and initiated cooperation with nationalist groups. The party contested its last election in 1936, and was not reorganised in 1945. Søren Tobias Årstad Søren Tobias Årstad (2 June 1861 – 11 January 1928) was a Norwegian jurist and politician for the Liberal Party. He was mayor of Stavanger from 1891 to 1892, and a member of the Storting from 1897 to 1900. A member of the cabinet Steen, he served as Minister of Finance, and he was Minister of Justice and the Police in Otto Blehr's first cabinet. A member of the Storting from 1912 tp 1915, he served as vice president and president of the Storting. Personal life Årstad was born in Stavanger as a son of merchant Edvard Årstad and his wife Signe Amalie Torjusen. He was a first cousin of Wilhelm Aarstad. He married Barbro Cecilie Rasmussen in 1890. Career Årstad finished his secondary education in 1879 and graduated with the cand.jur. degree in 1885.
